My friend wants his modded PSX back, so I'm stuck for a way to play the import games I've got. What I want to know is, will a boot disc do the trick for NTSC games on a PAL PSX? Any limitations? How much do they cost/where can I get one? Alternatively are there any places still selling modchips that will ship to/are within the UK? How tough is the install? I'm reasonably handy with a soldering iron...
Just purchase a PAL debugger (they run anything). Go on ebay and look for ebay seller DEVBX. He had some debuggers for sale a little while ago. He might have more.
a friend of mine installed a modchip into my PS1. You need about 4 wires for a standard modchip. if you have a stealth modchip, you have to solder about 8 to 10 wires. PS1 modchips are very cheap. You can get one for 2 Euro. A bootdisc should cost about 15 Euro. If you have a PS1 model with parallel I/O, you can attach a boot cartridge. These carts do the same as bootdisc's.
Where can you find a modchip for 2 Euros? If that's the going rate I'd pick one up in a second... I found some instructions, the install looks very easy. How much is a PAL debugger?
Just use a Game Enhancer or one of the similarly-named Gameshark knockoffs that plug into the parallel port on the PSX. I've yet to have mine fail to play a game, even one as screwy as Vib Ribbon with all the disc swapping (although it took some work to get everything to go smoothly). You ought to be able to find them for something as low as $15USD, plus it's not going to chew through your system like a modchip does. Although with as cheap as PS1 units are becoming, I suppose it's not that huge of a concern.
Hello, I can program you PIC 12C508A with desired contents, best one is MultiMode3 if you solder it with 7 wires. So, modchip supply is never any problem if you have programming device and blank chips. My friend is develeoping own PS1 modchip on 10F200, so even smaller than 12C508A and cheaper (but not finished yet) GameEnhancer (actually Caetla clone) sucks for playing backups/imports because sometimes sound problems can occur using swapping techniques. Send me PM if you are interested in programmed 12C508A. I can ship it using standard letter from Austria.
have a look at www.activated.de the superchip costs 2,20 Euro. But I don't know if these chip has a stealth function.
