Heyas! I've imported a SFC from HongKong as well, as a few games.
Everything seems to be fine, however the Start button doesn't work for both controllers, and to tell the truth, I don't think their broken.
To make things worse, I also got Super Valis still sealed, so it's new. The problem is, in orther to start this game, we must press Start button! I can't play this game =(

Is there any solution? I really hope so, I was so excited...

Short of taking the pad apart and cleaning it inside (Unlikely to make a difference I think) the only other option is to buy a new pad (I have a few spares if your in the UK).

Alternatively it might be a problem with the controller port on the SNES, though I don't know whether thats a common problem with them or not.

The SFC pads have a simple rubber molded button for Select and Start and this soaks up sweat and grease like you wouldn't believe. A simple wipe with isopropyl alcohol with a kitchen towel on the board and a cotton bud on the black rubber bottom (as well as the rest of it) will clean it and make the pad like new again (unless the rubber is completely worn).

Just a word or advice on "new" SFC games. They were never sealed if it's a Japanese game. So if someone offers you a sealed Japanese SFC game claiming it's brand new, The chance of it being used are very high.

The only way you could gaurantee it's new is if you bought a carton of the game in it's original carton with the original tape, then you'd have 20 new copies... ;)

I got rusted pins on the controller port on a French SNES once, not fun to clean :banghead: at all.

I ended it up screwing it up while doing a 50/60 hz mod

Glad you got it sorted out!!!

Damn, what could you possibly do with 20 brand new copies? I guess you'd have to sacrifice the extra ones to your god. If you have any extra copies to sacrifice to your god please contact me for his mailing address. ;)

I wish I could find some brand new official Super Famicom pads for cheap. I'd take a carton of 20 of those!
