http://deluxeforums.hardwarezone.com.sg/forumdisplay.php?f=168 Just wanna share the Singapore Community using the keitais.. featured in our papers. Maybe u can see more of these phones here?
The top-of-the-line phones of the west today are pretty incredible. I wouldn't give up amazing phone/camera functionality for some sub-par portable gaming.
The cameras on the Japanese phones take better pictures that Western ones. There are fewer 'apps' though, so if you want to do more than take photos and call people, get an iPhone.
The older phones for sure took better pictures. My 2006 sharp only had a 2mega camera but had real optical zoom. Ok, it was only a x2 zoom but at least it had one. It took very nice images. I can take one with it if you'd like to see the quality. Its far better than my 2008 sharp phone. Even the video on the 2006 phone is better. Sure it's only SD but easily on par with the likes of the iPhone. 2006 really way the year where you could see the massive gap between the shit in the west and the magical phones of Japan. Who would have ever though things would change so fast. Just to show how advanced this phone was in 2006, here is a list of features that NO western phone had back then Real email Internet Video chat Analogue TV with information streams and recorder FM radio Quality camera Quality video camera Movie playback from SD cards Big name games from capcom, namco, taito and konami And other features.
http://keitai808.blogspot.com/ this guy will help you get one and go to howardsforums for info on what models are unlocked, features, things you can't use if unlocked etc. i did this a yr or 2 ago with a sharp 903sh. that was quite an adventure i dunno how much things have changed since the 903 but software wise the phones could really use a modern os. earlier this year i read about a company releasing new phones with the same boring os
I'd say you're wrong about that...tons of western phones had Internet and email in 2006, and I'm pretty sure the N70 I had back then could do video chat as well (or at least it had two cameras). I'd like to see what the pictures taken with the Sharp phone look like, none of my phones have ever had a camera capable of non-shitty pics, especially if you're inside.
Yes, they had internet but it was a crippled version of it. They didn't have real PC Email though from what I remember. Also I made a mistake, the phone I'm talking about was released in 2005. For some reason I thought it was released in 2006. Oh well, if you'd liek to check the phone is a Sharp V603SH for use with Vodafone (Now SoftBank) Here's some photos taken with that phone. None have been enhanced at all. For a 2Mega pixel phone camera from 2005 they're quite impressive. Yakumo
I would like to thank in the first place, those who've been contributing to this thread. Here's my next question: docomo F-06B VS Aquos 940sh --» Can both be unlocked? How much does each one cost? The Iphone doesn't convince me when there are 12+ megapixel camera phones around for the same price or less! I know it's not all about the camera feature, but I don't care playing games on the phone, I've got an handheld for that! Everyone's into iphone now, it's getting sick, I don't wanna be just "one more", lol. Sorry i-fanboys, that's just my opinion. Besides the above mentioned phones, are there any other stylish ones, although cheaper that wouldn't be too thick and easily unlockable? Any suggestions?
Japanese phones today are what western (specially euro) cells were in the early 00s: fucking boring... The shift from hardware to software and OS really kicked docomo in the nuts (though doing nothing doesnt helps either). I wanted one of these back in 2003 when the greatest phone out there was that POS motoBRICK with the pansy color screen, but now? aside from a collector standpoint (like the NERV sharp) I dont see the point. Then get a Pre! BOOM! Seriously, you wont find a more "exclusive" (as in no-one-else-bought-one) phone anywhere. Too bad, 'cause WebOS kicks major ass...
Off topic but... You call that impressive? sorry but you should of seen the quality sony ericsson K line phones were doing around that time. Wiki quote: On March 1, 2005, Sony Ericsson introduced the K750i with a 2 megapixel camera
Google it I should know as i was a big fan and owned one.. it became really beautifull a year later when i bought the K800.. simply amazing! don't forget these are just cybershots with a phone build in! Since then I havn't seen picture quality like this, even not in their newest X10!!
