I'd like to convert some MP4 files to run on my 360 but all the programs I've found won't allow the encoding of 5.1 or higher. Software such as virtual Dub won't even open the HD MP4 files. Any one have a good idea of what to use?
So are the mp4s 5.1? As in ripped from a surround sound audio cd? If they were originally stereo its a bad idea to mix them up to 5.1. Most music was mastered to play in stereo, and thats the way it should be listened to.
Handbrake is a good video conversion program; at least the OS X version is, I've never used the Windows version. It can convert 5.1 sound, or so it seems. What kind of files are the ones you're trying to convert? Did you download them from somewhere, or did you convert them from some other source? Note: their website seems to be having issues right now. If you're in a hurry you might be able to find a mirror somewhere.
THe files I want to convert were downloaded British TV show files. They are normally in XViD or some sort of MKV file but this guy encoded them in to MP4 The format is Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1280x694 23.98fps [HDLiTE] Audio: AAC 48000Hz 6ch 396kbps I'll see if I can use handbreak
Nice idea but not worth it beacuse the files would needto be re-encoded which takes a lot of CPU power for HD video. I currently use TVersity to stream the data from the PC to the 360. Not only movies but music and pictures too. That can re-encode the MP4 file on the fly but my PC just isn't powerful enough to encode HD video on the fly without having to buffer every 3 minutes This is why I need to re-encode the files. I gave handbreak a try but all it offers are Apple formats. The older versions had PS3 and 360 options.
Right, but can't you manually set it to a format that would be compatible with your 360? You just need to know the specifics of the video formats the 360 supports.
Try TMPGenc. It's not free, but they have a free trial. http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/te4xp_feature.html I think the best way to have 5.1 audio on xbox360 is to convert to wmv-hd/wma-pro
Which Video and audio formats works on xbox360: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/xboxteam/archive/2007/11/30/december-2007-video-playback-faq.aspx Yakumo, are you converting 720p or 1080p content? Looking at the info on this blog, you have two options (both with 5.1 audio): 720p avi with 5.1 dolby digital or 1080p wmv with 5.1 wma.
Well MKV2VOB works for MKV files but not anything else. If you have a PS3 MP4 files usually work fine on it. But as far as the 360 goes, I can't really recommend anything that doesn't transcode the videos. Xvid4PSP by Winnydos is by far the best encoder i've been using for the past few years for videos on PS3/PSP etc. But again, have to transcode Xvid4PSP 5.0 Does infact do 5.1 channel sound IIRC And it has a mode for PS3/360 as well
Yakumo, do you try this before? http://www.any-video-converter.com/ Converts near any source to 360, ps3, wii ..... format. Works really great for me.
