http://www.slccglobelink.com/news/2.../mother.Of.The.Matrix.Victorious-785067.shtml I love it when a plan comes together!
Ouch. Well, if this is true, she of course deserves quite some compensation. Though it might have influenced the Wachowski's "subconciously" instead of them actually ripping parts ouf of Stewart's story, who knows...
Interesting ... shame that you need to register to read page 2 :smt022 wonder what cahaz will say? :-D
The movie now sux because of how full of itself it gotten after each sequel. It tried to be the next star wars but failed. I hope this lady wins.
The Wachowski brothers: Ripping off William Gibson, Ghost In The Shell, and now some random lady for nearly two decades. It's a shame they don't have a higher quality-to-crap ratio - 1 out of 3 really isn't that good. At least Lucas made three classics before his career went down the shitter.
Bound was good, I thought. Unless you're only including the Matrix trilogy for some reason. What were the three Lucas classics, btw? I can only think of one (the original Star Wars, surprisingly enough). Mind you, I haven't seen his earlier movies.
I thought the first Matrix was brilliant, the second was an okay action movie (if you enjoy zero plotline and twenty minute "action" scenes), and the third was utter ass (I came out of the movie rather confused). Most of the time I just smirk at these people who try and get damages for "stolen ideas" or the like, but this woman seems to be more educated than many.
I think he's referring to the original Star Wars trilogy (Episodes IV, V and VI). And about the original subject of the topic, I hope that woman gets the money she deserves
Thank you, nitpickers all. I KNOW Lucas didn't direct Empire or Jedi, however, he wrote them, just as he wrote Phantom Menace and Attack Of The Clones. Say what you will, but NO amount of amazing directing could have made Jar-Jar Binks look good. With the Wachowski brothers, OF COURSE I'm referring to the Matrix trilogy, as these are the films involved in the lawsuit. As far as I know, their other works aren't nearly as blatantly derivative as the Matrix films. Nobody's questioning the Terminator possibly because those films were actually pretty decent, in the campy early-'90s way. As for what claim the lady has on the Terminator series, I think she might just be trying to get compensation for the whole "post apocalyptic future" setting. The news article stated that the Wachowsky brothers used her novel almost as a reference point since its publication, but there was almost no information on how the Terminator films used it. Don't get me wrong, the Matrix was a very well done film, for not having an original bone in its body. However, I'd love to see the Wachowsky brothers take the fall on this, as Revolutions and Reloaded were utter crap, brought on by swollen egos thinking, "We made one amazing movie, and all that we touch turns to gold, we can shit out two more no sweat!" And I too usually scoff at lawsuits where people claim their idea was stolen, but then again as I've said, the original Matrix was a complete ripoff, and it would be nice for SOMEONE to call them on that, even if it is a crazy lady. And with all the potential left at the end of the movie (including the potential to LEAVE IT AS IT WAS), it seems like they should be fined in some way for the crap that followed. :smt043 Animatrix was pretty cool tho.
I don't know fellas, I don't think this lady has much of a case. Law says you only need to change an Idea 30% to get around copyright infringement. Chances are the Whokowski bros. are settling to avoid more adverse press, which could screw them up them a lot more than the monetary damages ever would. Think about it, right now those guys are setting pretty, and have the freedom to do whatever kind of project they feel like with whatever kind of budget they want problably for the rest of thier lives. If it got out that they "ripped off the Matrix" thier credibility would be shot, and they'd be back to square one flipping burgers again. The way I see it is like this- there's only so many different kinds of stories out there you can write. There are a finite number of plots. (Man vs. Society, Man vs. Nature, etc.) What makes a good story isn't the premise or the overall story arc, it's in the details and the actual "storytelling." From this perspective I think the Whokowski bros. did a good job. As for major Hollywood studios ripping each other off, what else is new? Everything is derivitive of something. It was real bad about ten years ago (two asteroid movies released at the same time, then you had Mulan and some Dreamworks King Arthur movie the same summer, etc.)
Jar Jar Binks was a fucking Gimp ! He ruined the entire movie. What a fucking annoying twat he was ! Yakumo PS: Sorry for the language but I really hated Jar-Jar Binks
Yeah, you should apologize; you should apologize for your language for Jar Jar the Fucking Defomity Binks not being harsh enough! That fucker utterly ruined Ep. 1, Lucas must have some sort of freak reptile fetish.
Judging by the amount of kiddie merchanidse I saw that repugnant creation of his on, I'd say he's more in it for the cash. Not to point out the obvious or anything :smt042
