ok over at theisozone a user by the name of vash32 has a pre-set HDDImage thats st up w/ the English translated PSBBN, ULE, ESR, GSM, OPL and BB3

over the past few days i have contacted him (or her i cant really tell by one's username :p) for help in converting the elfs to kelfs for a manual approach then the other day i remembered about the PS2 Linux kit and thers a Live DVD of BlackRhino Linux

i was half-successful in using it's version of dd to image the HDD, of the 40GB image there's only 10GB of content. but just using "dd if=/dev/sda1 of= /dev/hda" it only copied about.. 5~something GB (though i think i goofed if specifying "sda1" isn't that only telling it partition 1 on sda?)

im going thru this round about means as my system's too new and doesnt have any IDE ports none of the pc's in my friends home does except one but w/o going into detail.. that pc's offlimits to stay in the basement. and i dont want to buy an External kit (bad experinces 3 in a row w/ mad dog branded ones + i'd probbly use it what once or twice after this?(well maybe for my Xbox1..[and i mean the real xbox1 not this new one thats poorly named.]

He is saying can he use the "Live Linux DVD" to copy over a dump of HDDOSD on a USB to PS2 HDD. (as he does not have any IDE in his PC or a "IDE to USB" enclosure.)
In the end he was successful in doing it! It may be long as hell but it works, the HDD was never in a PC.. just a PS2 runing linux and USB drive.

    Hares the Tutorial he made.

Yes but that would be pointless for what OP wanted to do
He wanted to use a livecd to say copy your dump without connecting the HDD to a PC since he doesn't have a old PC or a enclosure

I find it impressive he was able to do it

That sounds like a great add-on for it, I'm sure doing it over a Network will be faster then USB 1.1. (PS2 HDD dump on a USB copy over 1.1 going a 300kbs or less was like 16hrs for him.)
