Playstation 2 Sega Classics Vinyl LP (Videos Uploaded) Sega Classics OST Side A | Side B Received, ripped directly from the vinyl, and uploaded this today. Contains tracks from Out Run, Fantasy Zone, Space Harrier, and Golden Axe. This was a pre order promotion for the Sega Classics collection for the Playstation 2 in 2005. I'm having a hard time finding out much info on it but I believe it was a Europe/Australia exclusive release. I've heard that there were 900 made, but that's not confirmed. Anyways, I actually really enjoy these tracks. I've also uploaded the Wolfenstein Neumond Classics and Sega Dreamcast collection vinyl on my channel. Though they'll need to be compressed (each side of .WAV's is around 3gb), if anyone would like me to upload the tracks, i'd be more than happy to. They are of very large bit rate and should be of high quality. Enjoy.
Only information I can find is from: http://www.rockin-b.de/c4/2006/ Says it was sponsored by the site "www.sega-magazin.de", don't know if that's the site that took the pre orders, or just the site where they obtained said information. "brandnew, sealed, 900 copy limited vinyl with classic viogame tunes" I was hoping to be able to stir something up on Way Back Machine (such as a pre-order advertisement, etc.), but havn't been able to locate anything yet.
Good question, i'm unable to confirm it since my copy hasn't been delivered yet. All I really have to go off of is the discogs track listings, of which doesn't specify anything about remixed tracks. Looking at the close up of the ebay listing, it doesn't mention remix in the track titles. (Click to enlarge)
Australia or France? Really not sure, bought mine from Germany and I saw other copies in Germany around the same time. http://vgmdb.net/album/16217
Awesome, thanks for the info! Yeah I wasn't sure about it's country of origin. Did you buy it when it was originally released or later on? Any idea how many of them were made or how it was sold (pre order, promo, etc.)?
I saw some of these in shops on the Republic avenue in Paris in 2008. At the time i didn't really pay too much attention. But i can confirm it was in France at some point. Maybe not brand new tho i can't remember exactly
I do remember one in Australia but it was printed on clear blue vinyl and had a cover like the megadrive box (that grid pattern). I think it was a bonus for a game collection released on PS3 or 360. edit: Here we go, LOL @ price. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SEGA-Meg...CORD-Soundtrack-BLUE-Lp-Genesis-/370743183008
It's hard to prove it was 900 copies only. Anyone could claim something like this. Can't remember when I bought it, must have been 2008-9. It's a nice object and more obscure than the Mega Drive vinyl hamburger is talking about (that one is super hype, and I've seen MANY on sale over the years. Price is stupid.
Just got the record in today. I'm currently recording the tracks to Audacity and will record footage/upload to YouTube later today/tomorrow. So far, the songs are pretty awesome (i'm not at my turntable to see which tracks i'm listening too).
It was really generous for you to post on youtube. I remember them doing one for the genesis/mega drive collection on ps3/360 and dreamcast but both were Australian exclusive. How good is the audio quality on the vinyl? I've been eyeing the sega vinyl soundtracks from 80's but they are pretty pricey.
I wouldn't consider myself an "audiophile" or anything of sorts, but I will say that my ears do take kindly to the "sound of vinyl". It's mostly apparent to me when I directly rip/record the vinyl from my turntable to my computer and then listen to it. It takes a bit of effort though, dust and debris can interfere a bit so you have to clean/maintain vinyl over time. I will say though that vinyl carries a certain "charcter" which you cannot find on any other media format. I've also thought about importing some of those JP import vinyl since they seemed to have significantly more releases, especially in the 80's/90's. There is one in particular that I really enjoy that has a sweet galaga track Let me know if you ever have anymore questions!
I'm aware of vinyls quality I have over 300 albums on vinyl. I was meaning how is the transfer? Does the game music sound really good on the record or is it the same quality as listening on a console?
I don't think they're the same recordings between the tracks on the vinyl and the tracks on the literal Sega Genesis/Mega Drive cartridges. The on board sound had many limitations at the time and I imagine the vinyl renditions/recordings are exponentially of better quality. Again I have no idea if the tracks on the vinyl are a direct recording of the original musical scores for the cartridges themselves. I'll go out on a whim and say that the vinyl releases of the tracks will always be of higher quality than what you'll hear on the actual cartridge.
I just listened to them and these were recorded from the Arcade boards. edit: Found this btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7miBTOaa6M Splash Wave
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADU3AwUYLlE From the actual vinyl G.M.O released in japan in the 80s when they would do sega soundtrack compilations. Sounds beautiful even being compressed through youtube. Always wanted to pick up this record but its pricey.
