Edit* Feed now dead as event over 848 People viewed the live feed over the 2 days, which is pretty reasonable considering it was a last minute decision. The event itself was a rip-roaring success with higher attendance rates than most had expected. I don't have figures as yet, but frankly the 3 areas used were constantly busy over both days. Sunday was marginally quieter, but only to be expected as some people had traveled a great distance to attend and the links North from Northampton are not so great on a Sunday. Thanks to Aypok for posting images and video.
EDIT: Sorry, this was meant to be posted to the other Insert Coin 09 thread... Here's a quick video to show the scale of the event. I was taking pictures and realised you couldn't convey how many cabs there are in a few photos, so I decided to walk the length of one side of the main row of cabs to give a better sensation of what it's like. This is the shmups (good) side; behind these is another row of cabs with mostly beat 'em-ups (you see the start of that row at the close of the video). Sorry for the crap video quality; my camera is okay with stills, but fails hard at video. I can't work out how to embed GooTube videos in to posts on this forum, so you'll have to click the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srId9CULtHQ Photos of the shumps side - during an usually quiet period, it seems: (click them) Cyberleads - more ugly in real life than they are in images. I hate them, but each to their own. Egret IIs - I was amazed at the condition of these things; much better than I was expecting! Egret IIIs Astro Citys Atomiswaves NAOMIs Blast Citys Windy II - the only one at the show? Capcom Cute - tomorrow's raffle prize Out Run 2 cabs - these are great fun Initial D 3 cabs - these sucked 'cause I tried them right after Out Run 2. A very strange -- but funny -- dog-walking game Neo-Geo... things... Viewlix clones? I didn't pay them much mind since they had beat 'em ups playing.
Aypok thanks for the images and information. Attendance was fantastic! The feed throughout the day certainly gave the impression that hundreds of people turned up. I also heard that there was a queue to get into the place. It looks like Superpang (Joe) won the first raffle prize (incidentally, a Cyberlead).
Yeah, there sure was. We got there thirty minutes after it opened and still had to queue for about fifteen to twenty minutes (that's not a complaint). It was very full, but there's still enough room to move - usually. I'm heading back in a few hours, so might have some more pictures/videos later. Haha. That's going to raise a few eyebrows and probably calls of a fix.
Can I put in a special request? Can you show those 2 x Vewlix cabs if you can as they are mine, not seen them yet as they were imported by Grant last week. Not my motherboards however, so wondering what to put in them before hiring them out. Staff should have been disallowed perhaps :-( Have a good time!
Are those the two black machines in my last photo? If not, I don't think I saw them... Ah, wait - actually, I think I saw them further up the row. Sorry, my memory's not very clear, 'cause I ignored pretty much everything with a beat 'em up (I don't hate them, honestly! There're just so many shumps to enjoy! ). Come to think of it, they were shut down, "folded up" and covered by about half-way through the show... Not sure what's going on with that, but it explains why I don't remember seeing much of them. That's probably not much use, but if I find them I'll try to take a few photos. Is he part of the IC09 crew? I don't know either way, I was just under the impression that he didn't have anything to do with it (in an official capacity). Although it doesn't look good, given that he's the founder of AO.
He was right at the very beginning of the IC09 build up, although I think he fell away from it due to other commitments. He's still 'involved' I guess as he has allowed AO (his site as you say) to be used as the main base for all discussion. I'm sure there is nothing dodgy about it all in the slightest, but yeah you can bet people will raise their eyebrows! The Vewlix clones are the 2 units in this thread (last image) they are black and blue and yeah, appear to be fighting titles! Would like to see them from side / CP shot if poss. Opinion on build quality too as they are clones and I wasn't sure whether to go for them or not. You'll get your hands on my cabinets before I do!
Oh, you want pictures of the clones. Yeah, sure - that shouldn't be a problem. They did seem quite busy, with a small crowd around them at all times. I'll try to get a go on them and royally embarrass myself with my lack of skill.
Ha! I found this though, which is excellent a 10 min video of the event, although it doesn't go into the large suite (Heroes) where the World record events and DDR were held. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSOXO3dRQLM
That's a cool video. It seems more videos are now being uploaded, which is great to see. I managed to get a few quick shots of the cabs you wanted, but there are now better photos on AO. I can upload them anyways and give you links in a PM, if you want. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to play it. I ran out of time on Sunday... should have gone earlier - oh well.
~Sadly, my two prospective Vewlix Clones were damaged by forklift in a freak reversal accident, so instead I came to an arrangement for an Egret IIs, Egret 3 and a couple of Taito Type 2X mbds running Street Fighter IV. My Atomiswave has a monitor issue (either that or is unhappy with the Maplins step down). So, don't worry! I think IC10 attendance is a must on my part! :110:
