Here is a video of inside a wondermega. Now while you may think the owner is crazy for disassembling it, he bought it in rough condition from hard off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr3Ob5dDbHw I am amazed how literally it's a genesis board connected to a cd unit.
Good 'ol Luke. I love the ridiculous-looking boards for the disc circuit area... For a second, I thought it was exactly like a MK2 Gen/MD board, but then I realized it has a lot more junk on it.
Yeah his videos are great. Most of the member here would relate to his hard-off trips I would imagine.
You ever see the inside of a CDX/Multimega? It's about the same, just with smaller boards. The popular theory is that one last revision of the technology might have led to a consolidated chipset on a single board, but the sales numbers didn't support further development. One guy I know swears that the CDX Genesis components were deployed for use in the Genesis III unit, but I've never seen the inside of that console to know for sure.
I'd open mine up to show you, but they are an utter pain in the rear cause of the shielding that's soldered all over the place. The only reason I disassembled mine in the first place was to replace the game save battery :icon_bigg -ud
looks like bad engineering. wonder how long my wonder will do a proper job now. but so far i didn't hear much bad about WM failures.
hard-off trips is my weekly hobby. altough you rarely can't dig treasures as you could years ago. also they realized the retro hype now and sometime pushing the prices up to akiba niveau, or even beyond of that. still i like their junk section, which is the place you still can dig some treasures, if you there at the right time. like working sega markIII for 10 bucks or PCE DUOs for 20 bucks e.g.
Hard off is definitely a store I would love to visit. I am not surprised they might be raising prices though with more and more people hearing about what they have. I'll never forget when Yakumo showed it off in one of his first retro cores and my jaw dropping at what they had especially for the price!
There's an old vid where he gets a PCE Duo R for 3 bucks. It had a busted power jack and it was repaired in a jiffy!
THey were the good old days of hard off when you could get a Saturn for 200 yen. No longer I'm afraid  You can still find great deals if you look hard and there at the right time. It's not how it was though. Yakumo
