I've noticed that some members of the boards have tried hackintosh on their computers, I want to give it a try but while I was looking for information I came with a couple of doubts:

In some tutorials it says that the installation needs a full HDD, and in other ones it says that a partition is enough to get it running. I'm asking this because I have a partition already made, but if it needs an entire disk I'll install it in a smaller one.

The other question I have is about the bootloader, the installation will overwrite Windows's bootloader, right? In that case, what should I do to make the bootloader let me select which drive to boot on startup?

And is there anything else I should know before installing?

Thanks a lot in advance, I'd really appreciate some help with this

I'm still trying to get OSX working on my Aspire One, and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with me not selecting the proper kexts. Out of all the OS installations I've done, this is by far the most demanding. Getting it installed isn't a problem; getting everything working is.

As far as dual-booting goes, I found this guide. It looks like it should work for what you're trying to do.

Thanks for the dual-booting info! I'll be trying to put OSX to work tomorrow, from I could see in the compatibility list I should get it working with only a few minor fixes.

I just burned the ISO image and booted from CD, the Apple logo appears but it just hangs in there. Any ideas?

If it won't even let you install, you might have a corrupt download/ISO image. If you've already installed and it hangs, you probably selected the wrong kernel/kexts to install.

Well, I needed to disable the "Legacy USB Support" option on the BIOS. I just finished installing and I have plenty of things to fix. First of all the resolution is set to 1024x768 and I don't have a choice to change it. It probably is something related to the video drivers, is there any way to change them without reinstalling?

Besides that, the sound isn't working but I'll take care of it once I solve the display issues.

What video chipset is it? If you don't already have the appropriate kexts installed, you'll need to do that. Once that's installed, if you still aren't getting the right resolution, I'm pretty sure you can set it up in the "com.boot.apple.plist" file.

i had a similar issue when i tried it, but only with the audio because the kexts that came with the release for nvidia video cards worked fine, took me quite some time to find the kext for my specific sound card though, my current system crashes on start up when i try installing newer versions of osx but like Taemos said, what video chipset do you have?

I have a XFX Geforce 9500GT, and i installed the NVinject driver for 512MB video cards, but the system information tool shows 30MB as the total video RAM, the screen settings show 1024x768 as the only resolution and the Quartz compositor doesn't seem to work.

The sound card is a Realtek ALC888, I tried the kexts made for that card without any results. Am I missing something? I'm really kinda lost in this...

And other trouble i thought I would be able to solve but I couldn't is the boot loader. It just won't boot without the installation disc, and this is really annoying since I have to disable Legacy USB support to boot it I have a USB keyboard. Any ideas?

    I'm fresh out. :/

I just reformatted my Aspire One today in favor of Windows 7 RTM. It was a neat experiment, but I think your system has to be geared specifically towards OSX or it won't totally work. Some people build their systems around OSX-compatible parts; if you're really serious about it you could do that, but most people don't have the money to throw towards a small project like this.

Ok, I've dealt with osx on intel since the early marklar beta was floating around, and I may be able to offer some assistance-

OSX on x86 hardware is a fickle beast... some hardware works so good it's scary, others, you'll be lucky to even get beyond the initial kernel loading...

The first step to getting this going is listing your hardware configuration and model numbers-
    Motherboard
    CPU
    Video
    Drive Interfaces (SATA/PATA/RAID)
    Key/Mouse interface (PS2/USB/Mix)
Ethernet and Sound rarely cause problems for the initial setup, but finding working kexts for them is commonly a problem point

As for things that work great...
just about anything using the old Atom reference platform...
the AAO SHOULD have worked well (It did for me), as did the Lenovo S10.

I currently use 10.5 on Intel D945GCLF2(D) boards as my choice platform for 100$ support with next to no hassle, and very low (<80$) cost for a full working board+cpu bundle.

    Well, here are my specs:

    Motherboard: MSI G31M3-V2
    CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2160 @ 1.8 GHz
    Video: 512MB XFX Geforce 9500GT
Drives: 1x 160GB SATA HDD, 1x 80GB PATA drive (where OSX is installed), 1x 20GB PATA drive, 1x SATA DVD burner
USB Keyboard and Mouse (need to use a PS2 keyboard to boot since the bootloader won't get installed)
Ethernet worked flawlessly, but the model is Realtek RTL8101E.
The sound chip is a Realtek ALC888. As I commented before, I installed the kexts included for that card in the iDeneb DVD with no results.

Once I disabled the USB Legacy Support on the BIOS it got installed flawlessly, so there're no big issues. If I found a way to put the audio, video and bootloader it would be great, however I don't think I'll change any component of my computer to improve compatibility...
