From Inquirer... http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/851/1050851/intel-design-playstation-gpu I always wanted Intel Extreme Graphics on my console... Knowing how Intel looks out for themselves... I don't think the GPU will be as strong as people would hope. Larrabee's true capabilities, benchmarks, etc. are still uknown, largely because you have to program everything from the ground up, whereas, with ATI/nVidia, not so much.
well the low level stuff will be handled by many abstraction layers and ultimately the SDK so no issue there
Hum...still curious about Larrabee and the Havok acquisition did spark my imagination!!! Intel Extreme is a bit crap indeed, but I'm really pleased with my Core i7 it's a good step up, especially when I upgraded from Athlon 64 X2 4200+, Intel has the power to impress us.
Already debunked by Sony (link)... I wouldn't be suprised though if Intel is at least an option in a prototype PS4.
Actually, if Sony (or anyone else) were to go for Larabee in a console, they would be better off going for one of the mixed CPU/GPU models Intel is talking about, the ones that would have, say, one core same as a current Core 2 CPU and then a pile of Larabee cores next to it. Devote the single Core 2 core to your game logic, some of the Larabee cores to the kind of math they will be good at for things like Physics (picture Havok or the like on it) and the majority of the Larabee cores to your OpenGL rendering. So make it like a CELL only with the SPUs being more optimized and more useful for graphics.
Yes. It's still a rumor. But, in CES, it was in the air that nVidia was not getting another deal for the next round. Either because Intel has won it, or Sony can't afford nVidia. But most of the rumors started by the inquirer have come true in some sense. Regardless, Intel's GPU is unproven.
that wasn't just console bias. Sony's been hurting lately the Games division was the only one making money and now....it's not Sony is struggling to sell people on the PS3. AND on top of that PS3 units are starting to Fail en Masse. It's not looking good.
Yeah, it's not being widely reported since it's not a Red Rind like issue but I know several people who are sending their PS3s back for repair or just switching sides. then there's this http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601080&sid=aiNrM62dqIY4&refer=asia Pioneer is also hurtin.
PS3 IS DEAD. You really ought to refrain from making ridiculous statements if you're just going on personal experience/your friends' words, eh?
