Interest check - Superguns

Discussion in 'The ASSEMblergames Marketplace' started by Tachikoma, Dec 20, 2004.

  1. I'd be really interested in one, actually. Not sure how 'built to order' you'd plan on making them, but the things that would guarantee an immediate interest for me would be:

-Composite video/audio. I don't have a TV with S-vid, and it should be the easiest (aside from straight RGB) to do. Now making it NTSC, that could be another matter. Besides contrary to popular belief, composite really isn't that bad.

-2 controller ports, 15-pin Dsub. I've been wanting to hack together my own joystick, this would finally give me a reason to.

-No power supply. I've got an old PC ATX supply that should do just fine, plus shipping would be cheaper.

All this in a nice, self-contained box (with room for the power supply) would make me willing to pull my pants down. Plus, if you made the 1P and 2P coin buttons the traditional white arcade buttons with the black players (or even just predrilled the holes for buyers to wire their own) you would have my order. :smt023
Then again, a prebuilt/predrilled box would suit me just fine too - that's been my biggest obstacle to building my own supergun, is not having access to the parts or resources to build an enclosure.

You'd most likely have to do quite a bit of individual customization to fit what everyone wants, and its understandable if you don't want to go to the effort, but if you did, I would be most interested.

Also, if you've had your eye on any US imports, Tach, we might be able to work something out in lieu of money... ;-)

Funny you say that GSL, I have drawn up a "barebones" supergun, which is basically a box with just the loom/video/control bits. You have the female power connection thats on a motherboard, and you just plug in your own ATX power supply (or AT if you have one). On the box, you have ATX power controls (easily done), so all you do is plug in a generic power supply, the jamma board, and the controllers.

If you do that you might blow your board... PC joysticks with 15-pin connectors actually use an analog signal for the stick, IIRC it ranges between -5v and +5v. Not compatible at all.

I actually meant you use the game port CONNECTOR. You can also get a cheap joypad and easily mod it.

And here are the pinouts for that:
