Http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7440658.stm This is an interesting artice for a new use of technology i spotted for use in racing game and thought i should share it to those who like racing games particularlly and also everyone else. The concept is That race data for say cars position in an f1 race is located via gps and transmitted to a server and then sent over the net to gamers so they can race in real time against the drivers of the particular racing series and all this is done within less than 5 secs. I think this a great idea that if done properly could be very good and it is a completly new way of gaming rather than having standard AI players offline or human players online because your racing against the real life drivers and in real time all within a game.
Sounds like an advanced Time Attack to me, and not much else... You're not racing against the pilots at all, they represent a ghost car you can only beat in lap time.
It actually sounds pretty cool, but "racing" against real drivers is not going to work because real drivers experience fear, something that a computer game will never replicate (unless someone invents a peripheral that kills or injures you if you hit the wall too hard....?).
Indeed in real time it won't work, I mean what if you crash into David Coulthard before someone else does?
