The bottom looks like the connector but I can't imagine what was used to hold that vertical.

That looks like an MEGA DRIVE development cartridge which uses SRAM chips with a pair of AA batteries to keep the program data alive ...

    Quite interesting...

There's no difference between 32X dev carts and regular MD dev carts. In fact, the only difference between carts in general for the 32X vs the MD is the 32X needs slightly faster roms than you can use on the MD since the 32X cart timing is slightly faster than the MD.

The MD takes 4 clock cycles to access the cart. The SH2 takes 8 cycles, but those cycles are 3 times as fast (exactly) as the 68000 cycles. So the SH2 takes 8/3 68000 cycles to access the cart, so 2.67 cycles vs 4 cycles.

My extensive knownledge in development items would tell me, the icon at the top of the page on Assemblers post is of a 32X. Or am I mistaken? ;-)

It's fast enough but far too old to be for 32x. Poor icon choice, sorry.

You'd think that light label would say "replace batteries when not lit"

Yeah, but then the light would have to be on permanently (wasting batteries) rather than coming on when the voltage drops too low.

But what if the voltage goes entirely during the light on process and you miss it!

Then it teaches you not to purchase batteries from Poundland anymore.

Poundland can be ace (finding a hardback copy of The Last Hero by Terry Pratchett, cheap good quality tools or creaky old horror movies on DVD, for instance), but a warning to everyone here: it is also the home for branded batteries that last for about 20 minutes before dying... and the greater majority of the things Dr. Ashens reviews. :p
