    Here is a little background.

In the past I have dabbled around as a radio DJ across various internet sites, mostly connecting to their servers via Shoutcast and SAM Broadcaster. It was pretty simple as the programs just had you input the address, add an encoder, and viola. You are connected and can stream your music across the airwaves.

Then I started working, and had less and less time to do things, so I stopped doing this for a while. Now that I am unemployed again, I figure it would be fun to get back into this to help pass the time and keep myself somewhat in practice as it were. However, it seems that things have changed in regards to most of the sites where I used to play music on. Therefore, I figured I would host a radio server myself and play music there, but it seems that running my own server for internet radio is much more complicated than I have realized (to put it in nice terms anyway).

So the question I ask of you guys is this, how would I go about creating and running my own internet radio station? I figure someone else here would have an idea or has experience in doing this themselves. I have tried using Shoutcast and IceCast2, but I just can't seem to get anything connected to it, nor does my computer seem to allow me to edit the XML config files to set any passwords and whatnot. Googling methods just keeps leading me around in circles, and I have been getting rather frustrated at this whole thing haha.

Guess you can say that it's one of those things that shouldn't be so freaking complicated, but it is, and has caused me to nearly toss my keyboard out the window in frustration. So, if anyone has any advice or tutorials on how to do this, I would be most appreciative. I'm probably missing something here, because it really shouldn't be as complicated as it may seem. :banghead:

Shoutcast is easy, there's a lot of documentation on it on their site!
You need to unblock the ports and forward them on any routers/firewalls you have, and you need a decent internet connection to host it too.

Once you get it installed, configure SAM broadcaster/winamp/etc. to use the shoutcast plugin (You might need to download it), put the IP details in and start a broadcast, then visit the shoutcast server via HTTP on the normal listening port, e.g. http://example:8053/
Then just click on 'listen' at the top and you'll get a file that'll open in winamp or similar and you should hear it playing!
