Hello all, Interplay will be selling its entire IP catalogue soon. https://globenewswire.com/news-rele...-Wedbush-Securities-as-Strategic-Advisor.html I hope that a good company will try to get the Earthworm Jim IP and make an all new good game ! I also hope that some debug/beta stuffs from this editor will popup (I have money aside for this haha).
A quick look on google for that redneck rampage remembered me a lot of things ! I had totally forgot this game.
Legend of Grimrock looks indeed like Stonekeep but their own IP is probably more attractive ! There is a lot of good games edited by Interplay, like the Freespace games, Stonekeep and few others. But except Earthworm Jim, I think that buying all these old IPs is not very interesting for development studios, as they don't have enought famousness (even if they diserve it). But It can be useful for an independant developper who wants to start in the videogame business whitout creating a completly new IP (worlds, characters, background stories,....).
I feel like taking over the EWJ IP would probably be a one-shot affair. Make a new game with it - people will notice you just don't have that Dave Perry humor - everyone stops caring about Jim. For indies, MDK might work out better, what with all the incoherent random madness in there. Much less need for "polish" since even somewhat incoherent stuff still kinda works in that setting. And I think it's less "Perry-ish" than EWJ so people would go easier on it.
Dave Perry and Douglas TenNapel can still be consultant. And some studios, like Double fine, can potentially make a great Earthworm Jim game I don't know much about MDK, I have never played it. But it can indeed be a good oportunity for an indie
MDK was a good game, if it's the game I'm thinking it is. I always wondered about another sequel or something.
I played MDK 2 on Dreamcast, pretty interesting. Liked both EWJ games, slightly prefer the sequel as it was the first one I played
I've contacted them and will seek to get some properties, I'm waiting on the complete list of assets.
Hopefully someone picks up Redneck Rampage, haha. Such an amusing game. Wonder if any prototype builds of stuff will show up for sale, would definitely be interested in picking up stuff from some of their owned properties.
New Redneck Rampage on UE4 or other modern engine will be fun. If it will be old school FPS ofc, not modern one with health regeneration and 2h tutorial.
Hmm I sure do hope there's a chance that we get to see any prototypes if they are obtained. And by see I mean shared
Was wondering when this would happen =P Very curious if "Whiplash" is one of those properties. I used to play the shit out of that game
Minor game minimum $10k. Expect minimum $100k on most. MDK had two well-rated titles in the series and a third planned, so it's probably going to be well over that. Just because they have the IP, it doesn't mean any source code, betas or similar will necessarily be shared. Plus it doesn't automatically grant you the right to publish - a licensing deal may be needed in some cases (use of music, other IP etc.)
