    Hi Everyone,

I know recently there was talk about the Dreamcast SD reader, but that there was only like 10 made from a guy in China. Is there any market/interest for these readers?

It would still be a home-made effort, but I could likely get these in quantity if the interest is warranted.

Note: As usual, you can tell me the idea is crap if you think so. It's just a friendly inquiry.

I thought people agreed his quality was lacking?

<Shrugs> Well the quality is nothing to write home about. It is a home-made effort so it would just be lots of people hand making these things based off plans, but if there isn't alternatives or people willing to make them, perhaps it's something to consider.

I wouldn't spend much effort looking into this unless you get lots of interest. I imagine that won't happen - the current state of the device is that its use is very limited unless you're looking to write homebrew code.

Ah, I see. I'll shelve this idea then.

I wouldn't pay more than a few quid tbh. Five or ten absolute tops. Still, a killing to be made on ebay, it seems.

Actually, while we're on the topic - anyone know where the plugs come from, the USB-like bit that goes into the DC? The auction suggests that a coder's cable is needed, which sounds suspect to me. There must be another source.

There's a lot of people in the spanish dreamcast scene that want some of these cables.

The main problem is finding the serial port connector, salvaging it from Vs-Cable or DC-NeoGeo cables seems to be the only way to get them and it's expensive.

I personally built mine by soldering directly to the serial ports, works well. The hypothetical "buyer" might still have to remove capacitors from under its motherboard in order for the cable to work.
