I'm sure you know how tightknit the assemblergames community is. For too long the site rested in it's old ,comfortable skin. That has changed and we're on the move again, so I have a favor to ask. If you're a longtime lurker, register. If you have a friend, invite them. I'm looking forward to providing new content, and to bringing in new friends. We have a community that is based on etiquette and respect and that is what makes us stand out. Once again reborn ; welcome to the site.
As long as this site doesn't become like Wiihacks. That place was quiet, and we were all like best buddies and then heaps of people started getting into the scene and drama happened. Then I got banned. Wasn't fun. Don't want a repeat. ehe.
I was a mod on wiihacks, the administration there were not pleasant. They removed my mod powers without reason or without any contact/PM. Fun times
That's why the original members are in a separate user group. I can always create a forum only they can use.
are their any sections here that only registered people can view? like the downloads etc? if you made some of the areas of the site a requirement to be logged in before they could view you may be able to reduce the amount of lurkers and leechers?
Being visible means it shows up in google results. Then if those unregistered users want to PM the person to buy, they need to register. Hiding the marketplace wouldnt be a good thing imo.
Fair point, do you not think having some sections that are for registered members only might encourage less lurking? doesn't have to be the marketplace but possibly some of the other sections? However the google results will obviously help to attract new members when people are searching online Other forums I am a member of do have stuff like VIP subscription etc. which I am happy to pay for as it keeps alot of the idiots of the forums and tends to encourage more of a community feel obviously this would be more work for Assembler and quite frankly I reckon he has probably had enough of working on the forums for now
I was specifically talking about the marketplace. I do not think "members only" sections are a bad thing - it just depends how its done and what sections. I think making the downloads section viewable, but needing to be a member to download anything isnt a bad idea. If he wants to hire someone to do the work - I have been an admin on several forums (sbhacker, hacksden) and a moderator on plenty more (wiihacks off the top of my head) and would help him out. I will even take a demotion back to member once its done. But its unlikely to happen
Don't make things too complicated with member restrictions, etc. Its nice in here at the moment. Perfect figurative temperature. Best forum I've been a part of for a long time.
