I know CL is full of dick baggery, but why are there like 20 listings selling iPad 2's at only double the cost of the Japanese apple store? Am I missing something?
Yeah, but not a lot of good deals TBH. People want to sell used stuff at like a 10% discount. It is mainly for expats that don't speak Japanese, thus, can't really use YJ.
iPad 2 cannot be bought in Japan, so these are iPad2s from the USA (or elsewhere) sold at a massive markup.
Okay. Thought it had launched here already (I was in the US when it launched there). So yeah, only for the crazies.
Was due to, but has been postponed indefinitely due to the Earthquake. Some key parts are actually made in the North of Honshu apparently, too. So supplies world-over are a bit tight. The prices were reduced on iPad1 in prep for 2, but the delayed launch has meant that importers are charging crazy money. God knows if anyone is buying them though... stupid money.
Because it looks better than the average netbook and is very chique. It also has "apps", like Angry Birds HD!
I fucking hate Angry Birds and every other bloody App that has Angry in the title OH: Anyway, Jamtext has a very good point. You could but a very good laptop for less than an iPad 2 and have no problems with connectivity, software, data transfer to other platforms, internet sites not running due to incompatible formats (Flash, Silverware and so on), a completely unlocked system. Sure a laptop may not look as sleek or chique but it's a hell of a lot better and can be used for real computing and not some arty farty pansy way of over sized iPod Touch computing. Yakumo
Why would you buy a laptop when you could have a phone? Apples & oranges. The iPad isn't a laptop. I agree whole heartedly that a laptop is a far better purchase though (and is why I own one and not a tablet).
The ipad isn't a laptop granted but there are very few things you can do on an ipad that you could not do on a netbook or laptop. To me a phone is a phone, I use it to make calls and do quick emails. If I want to listen to music I use a proper MP3 player, if I want to take pictures I use a decent camera, if I want to run some software then I can use a PDA (I still use a Palm OS PDA), etc...
While I do have a netbook, I can see the appeal of the iPad. Most netbook's battery performance is less than of the iPad2 and the wireless functionality on my netbook at least is not as good.
I have a MacBook Air for portability and love it. Can actually do real work on it too, unlike the iPad. No-one needs an iPad. You don't need an iPod, either. Nor an iPhone. The iPad is the odd one out as it really is just a play-thing and has no real constructive use. I loved mine when I had it, but would just prefer to spend the money elsewhere right now.
instant on and optimized touch interface plus stacks of app available are what sold me on the iPad. Missus and kids just love the iPad. Heck, even my 3yo loves to play on iPad. Her fav app is ABC Learning which she does all by herself without any help. Can't think she could do the same with notebook... atm the notebook is mainly used for iTune and online drama watching as they use Flash...
Like every single app from the app store... I still don't own one, and really only would if I could incorporate some type of nice piece of DJ software into live mixing. That' a big if though.
