It still makes me smile when I hear of Steve Jobs complaining about Flash because it's "closed and proprietary". The fucking balls on that man, honestly.
Really. So to tell me that BMW or mercedes Benz makes a closed system or my cable company has a DVR that is closed or TiVo makes boxes that cannot be modded, is that not okay? They make it, we buy it and we don't have to purchase it. If the overwhelming majority of people cared they wouldn't purchase it. Truth is it isn't a problem lest the masses would have dumped iOS entirely as soon as android 2.1 started to use flash lite.. Not defending apple but giving perspective.
>>Really. So to tell me that BMW or mercedes Benz makes a closed system or my cable >>company has a DVR that is closed or TiVo makes boxes that cannot be modded, is >>that not okay? Just because there are other examples doesn't make the argument I made about Apple incorrect. Just means there are many examples in the industry. >>They make it, we buy it and we don't have to purchase it. Alas it's not black and white as you portray it. Manufacturers make products that people want, key thing is people want them. If they didn't then manufacturers wouldn't make it. So it's a feedback loop between customers requirements and manufacturers products. In this case I think that feedback is being distorted by Apple's own agenda which in the case of Flash isn't in the consumers interest. Need to get into perspective that it's not just Apple not developing a flash based product, it's actively making it difficult to deploy Flash technology on the iPhone. This is more than passive intervention, it's active (aggressive?) interaction. I can accept the passive side - it's their business after all. But the active side is not acceptable IMHO. >>If the overwhelming majority of people cared they wouldn't purchase it. This is not true, you portray it as B&W, and it's simply not like that in reality. Life is rarely B&W - apart from B&W photos... >> Truth is it isn't a problem lest the masses would have dumped iOS entirely as soon as >>android 2.1 started to use flash lite.. Again it's not B&W. Purchases decisions are a balance - there are many many positives to an iPhone so it's not B&W. For me I love my iPhone but if an Android phone gave me a similar experience with Flash, then I'd go to Android..... >>Not defending apple but giving perspective. Sure. Me too
I got around this problem by getting a provider subsidized Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S lineage). Runs flash rather nicely. Plus I find iTunes for Windows to be less pleasing that using a hammer made of cork to drive a rusty nail through my dick.
I think we all know iTunes for windows is a load of shite. So F*ing slow. Plus have you noticed that QuickTime on Windows is shite as well. Again, over bloated and slow. Apple are pricks IMO. It's as if they make the Windows software poor on purpose. Do they really think someone is going to buy an over priced Mac just because their software runs like shit on a Windows system? All they're doing is pissing off their fan base. This is why I NEVER use iTunes or QuickTime. Instead I use free 3rd party software which does the same job at half the time and system resources. Well, that's why I started this thread...heh. I want an iPhone but I might not be able to use it the way I want to because of the flash issue. And to me it's absolutely silly to think that I might be forced to buy a different product just because this grown man and president of a major company is simply acting like a child. And to be fair I'm betting that a majority of iPod/iPad/iPhone users don't really know anything about flash. My friend bought an iPod touch and mentioned that he can't properly access the BBC. Unless you know what flash is and how it might affect your web browsing it's probably an issue you learn about only after you've spent the money. I didn't know I couldn't use Napster with my iPod until after I bought it because, again, it never crossed my mind that Apple would actually block me from certain music providers. Had I known that at the time I probably would have bought a different player.
