I think the current iPad looked already on its initial presentation like an outdated, bulky version of something great. Like the first ipod while everyone was already expecting the Nano. Well, if the screen becomes (almost) the entire surface of the iPad 2, it could really become what they wanted to have with the iPad 1. Technically it is already very impressive (that EPIC games tech-demo is frightening, something Sony and Nintendo don't seem to touch with their next gen of handhelds).

How can you know when we have barely seen the 3DS and not at all the PSP2?

In terms of getting a tablet, once they release ones featuring Linux or Windows, that's when it would be more than just a novelty. The iPad is way over hyped. I am very disappointed with mine, especially the battery life and limitations of the iOS.

Have you played the Epic games tech demo? It's absolutely stunning for a sort-of-handheld. The 3DS looks nice, but technologically it's not really a benchmark in graphics - to me it seems more like a really interesting gimmick that could provide a fertile ground for new concepts, like its predecessor.

The PSP2 - you're perfectly right, there's no reason to say it's less powerful than the iPad at this point. But even if the the PSP will be just as powerful as the iPad, it will still not have the large screen which rendered my experience with said tech demo so intense.

Although I have to agree on your criticism - I wouldn't buy an iPad either, even now that I've played all the games I would be interested in on a pal's device (the cave shooters & puzzle games). It's more like a gimmick to me - a 600$ gimmick with stupid ingame controls and a big black bar around it. >_>

You do know that the Epic tech demo runs perfectly fine on the 3Gs as well, don't you? It's not just for the iPad. It is very impressive needs to say.
