I took it out of the box and wiped off some fingerprints with a cotton cloth, and now the damn thing looks like it was rubbed with brillo. I would say avoid buying it, I am returning mine, no sense in having it if the damn screen isn't viewable in a week. It's worse than the first gen gameboy advance. brush it with a finger, and it scratches.
How's the audio quality of the iPods? I hear from audiophiles that the Creative Zen mp3 player has better audio quality than the iPod, when you hook it up a stereo system and crank up the volume.
I have heard nothing but bad things about I-Pod`s. Law suits in the US for poor battery life. They are making news even in the UK about poor battery life and now the poor quality of screen`s on Nano`s, breaking without being dropped etc. http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/reports/consumer/consumer_20050920.shtml Fortunately my phone as windows media 10 on it But the one I would like to get is I-River U10
I was actually planning on getting one. I'm not too familiar with Apple's gagets. What amazes me is all that space into something that small, wonder why the PSP couldn't do the same (which I've probably said for over the hundredth time! )
iPod must die!!!!!!!!!!! :smt067 I got a Virgin Player 5gb for 30$, I love it and after comparing it to friends mp3 players (Zen, iPod, etc), mine has the best sound quality. It has 2 audio in jacks too, which is cool.
It was used on Ebay. The Virgin Players should be pretty cheap since the department that made them is gone now. I love it, my only complaint is shorter battery life than most players but, no biggie, it still lasts long enough. The whole thing is anti iPod too, it says iTunes won't work with it because of protection schemes and they said to send Apple hate mail and tell them to learn how to share, haha.
I am always at a loss as to why people want these 40GB players.....how much music do you want on one machine? Now this size for a MultiMediaPlayer is a different matter!
PhreQuency, you mention a shorter battery life - exactly how short is it? And what sort of battery does the Virgin player take. I'm sortof in the market for a digital music player right now - I've still got my trusty minidisc, but burning the discs is sometimes too much of a hassle. I'm thinking if I could get a nice 4-5GB unit, I'll be set. I was originally trying to check out the Creative Labs Zen Mini, but I haven't ruled out the iPod Shuffle (yeah, I know it only goes up to 1GB), either. It's sort of an iPod Lite - all of the features, and only half the pretention!
My Bro's Nano came out of the box with a cracked screen, it was shipped via courir as well. Though he loves everything apple - he admitted he would never buy another nano. I on the other hand love my Sony walkmen, mp3 player. Size of a shuffle and looks rather more masculine as well as actually putting out some heavy bass.
I'll take note tommorow about how fast the battery wears down. The bad thing: The battery is nonreplaceable. But, the player itself is cheap. I've got about 50 CD's and I rip in high quality and have them all on here, so I think it's a great player. It's not the greatest flashiest thing ever, but it definetly isn't bad. I'd say if you have the money, go for something a little more recent, like the creative, but if you want an inexpensive player that will work for now, try to find a Virgin Player. I really like mine and the sound quality is awesome, but I've had it for less than a month so I don't want to go and recommend a player I haven't totally burned in. Keep an eye on ebay for one, since there not iPod or Zen people usually don't go for them, thats how I got mine. I'd say don't get a shuffle, they cost a lot and it's pretty much a jump drive with a headphone port. Not even a screen or power light lol. But yeah, keep an eye out on Ebay or something for the Virgin Player.
