A class action lawsuit has been filed against Apple for making a shitty, exhuberantly overpriced, product. Actually it is about how easily the lcd screens get scratched by touching it. http://news.com.com/Suit+filed+over+Nano+scratches/2100-1047_3-5906399.html?part=rss&tag=5906399&subj=news
I just use common sense and keep my Nano in a protective case, like my old iPod. I think the reason there's so many lawsuits in the US is due to a lack of common sense.
common sense is uncommon on this side of the earth. but i must also agree that the ipod nano screen is shitty. Does it mean that you need to sue Apple for this? Is Apple the one who scratched your screen anyway? that's just like That woman who sued Mcdonald because she droped her coffee on herself. are they the ones who make the ipod nano, or what?
Well, Apple's product does indeed suck. It's not the lawsuit-happy mentality of the U.S. (which is in itself questionable) that is the point here, but the fact that people can still stand up to big corporations, somehow. Yeah, asinine lawsuits have somehow delegitimized the fact that the people are the ones that should decide upon quality and limit the power of corporations. But this lawsuit is not one of those, if I read correctly. It's the fact that several people feel misled by the difference between perceived quality in advertisement and real quality in product. And it's good that people can still demand quality in overpriced things like the ipod. I wouldn't sue over my screen being scratched or scratchable, but I would sue if the quality over the price is not as it was promised. Then again, they did not advertise with an "unscratchable screen" feature or anything... Still, it's nice to know Apple can't get away with a drop in quality just because they're rich and popular.

Nice poem there wolverine - whos the author? Can't say I quite agree that an ipod lawsuit is changing the government, but it is a quite good example of the power of people. I don't really think this lawsuit is necessary - Could be because I am quite a fan of Apple, however apple have already agreed to replace broken screens - Which is where the damage actually affects use. Scratched casings doesn't affect the main use of the iPod - Playing music, so I don't really see why there should be a lawsuit. One reason this could be getting so much attention is because it replaces the ipod mini, which compared to the full size ipods is quite hard to scratch. Therefore people updating from the ipod mini to the nano would notice a big difference, whereas someone from a full size ipod wouldn't notice too much. To sum up, The product shouldn't scratch as much as it does, but it really doesn't affect the use of the device. I also think the media has jumped on it because this is seen as apple "failing".
Changing government wasn't I meant, wasn't that awake when I posted that. What I meant to say is that our legal system enables us to, as xerdo well put it, control corporations from selling products made out of low-quality materials at a high price. One industry that sees a lot of lawsuits similar to this is the automotive industry. All it takes is a class action lawsuit against Ford and Firestone that made low quality tires resulting in hundreds of rollovers in Ford SUVs that could have been prevented if the tire was made of better material instead of low quality. What resulted was a massive recall of their tires and stricter regulations imposed on all tiremakers to meet a new standard when it comes to tire quality. I doubt this lawsuit will go very far, but the fact that these lawsuits can happen just makes the legal system well worth having.
actually class action lawsuits do nothing but bring an issue to the attention of many and make the attorneys rich. The people involved usually get much less than if they didn't jump in on the class action suit. lol, I laugh whenever I hear people hating on that woman. The media skewed the facts to make her sound stupid. Mcdonalds was at fault the whole time. First, she wasn't driving, she was the passenger. Her son was driving and was even parked when the thing happened. The cap to the cup wasn't on real well and when she tried to pull the tab to pour in the creme and stuff, the whole top came off and the coffee spilled on her groin area. She originally only wanted Mcdonalds to pay for her medical bill, which was like $6,000 or something. Instead they said no and it went to court. The courts found out that McDonalds kept their coffee almost at boiling temeratures because they said it makes better flavor. They also found out that McDonalds had hundreds of similar complaints about people burning themselves and they did nothing. That's why the woman won, because the courts wanted to make McDonalds know they have to respond when there is a problem.
