So I have this Pioneer stereo system in my car, and it has an iPod connector. This has some advantages, such as improved sound quality, track names on the stereo itself, and controls on the stereo. Anyway, I'm not here to debate whether or not that was a good idea, I just want a solution. So here's the problem: I just recently realized that I may not always want to use an iPod as a portable music device, so I want to know if it would be possible to use another device with my system. Right now the only input into the stereo system is an iPod connector. I'm wondering if I could use an adapter to allow other devices to be played over my stereo. What I'm talking about would basically be a female iPod connector to stereo headphone (male or female, doesn't matter) adapter. I've looked around a little and can't determine if they make these - and even if they did, if it would work. See, I'm not sure what kind of connection my particular stereo uses to play music from the iPod; it could be a digital connection, something like S/PDIF (which is the most probable, since I know it sends other digital information to the stereo); or it could be an analog audio connection. My idea would only work if the latter is true. So here is what I'm ultimately asking: is it possible to make an adapter to do what I described above? If so, does one exist already, or would it be possible to make one myself? How might I find out the information I need to make one (such as what kind of connection my stereo uses)?
What about a headphone to an AUX solution ? Cause I think I have done that a few times in the past with other peripherals to my stereo system
As I understand it, he is saying the car has an Ipod connector to AUX cable, so he needs the converter. I think you want one of these:http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/PIE_PIO_P_35M.html I have not shopped at that retailer, but they are not too hard to find elsewhere. Google "Pioneer PIO/AUX"
Yes, that would work, but then I wouldn't be able to use other external components with my stereo. They make one with a pass-thru, though. Maybe I'll get one of those.
