There's homebrew for the original version, but not for the version that has the camcorder built in, unfortunately. I think that's just because no one has written a bootloader for it yet, though. I'm not sure how large the homebrew scene is, you'd have to look into that yourself. I know of a good working SMS/Game Gear emu, an apparently rough Gameboy emulator, a Doom port (not sure how good it is) and some simple-simple games/tech demos. You can be sure that the scene is nowhere near as large as the scenes for the Dreamcast or GP32, for instance. And I suspect you'll find that a lot of the homebrew development is geared towards apps and media player functionality rather than games. That's what I found with the homebrew scene on the AV300 at least, games trickled out, but most people were focused on getting a complete functional replacement for the default firmware, games were an afterthought. You could always write some yourself, though. ...word is bondage...
Yeah, pretty cool, I think. Especially since the videos are encoded directly into DivX and then stored on the hard drive, so you could literally shoot for days before you ran out of space. It does 640x480/24fps, I think, and you can select your encoding rate, up to I think 2000kb/s. What's lame, though, is that it encodes the audio as WAV or something uncompressed like that instead of MP3. All of Archos's newer systems and many systems from other manufacturers, too, lack the ability to encode MP3 even though older models (like my AV300) could. Has something to do with copyrights on the MP3 format, I think. My favorite PC audio player, dBpowerAMP, makes you buy a licence if you want the MP3 encoder now, too. ...word is bondage...
I call vaporware... Its been more than a year and there were no news about it on the CES, so it was scrapped long ago.
Iriver do some good stuff. My H340 is still working well after several years of abuse (and a battery replacement).
