Am I the only person who is waiting for a dreamcast optical drive emulator? I have cash ready to plunk down for one:033:, but All I see is bickering, and loose ends, and no project. I'm sure there is others that would jump on board, especially after the 64drive massive pre-order.:banghead:
Thanks for the sarchasm, but if you read the post you sent me to, you'll see that the guy can't be reached anymore
Really, because I saw a link to a blog where a WIP model was being demonstrated. Seems it answered your question rather nicely.
He doesn't seem that interested in getting anything completed. I was wondering, does the DC have rolling encryption? If not, Can't we just: 1.connect a fast usb based logic analyzer to the gdrom ribbon, and record how it interacts with the utopia boot cd. 2.Then watch it read an ISO. 3.Then have it playback? if not what am I missing?
Conceptually, you're right Evotistical. However this thing is harder than it seems, as every reverse-engineering jobs. The part where you "watch" it, it doesn't mean you "understand" everything that you see, and that you have the skills to emulate the behavior. You can't guess a cake's recipe by watching people eating it ... Still it could be possible to do for someone motivated with the right skills and spare time.
where is a good place to start learning how to reverse engineer? or a good place to hire someone from, mabe from china to reverse engineer for me? So far in life I have always been able to figure out how something works or how to do complicated tasks, as long as i am given a starting point. i see a real need for the dc drive emulation, as i mod classic video game systems on the side. I constantly get asked why we cant mod the dc and tg16 to play backups easily and reliably, and that backup discs are the only answer for the dc.
