Well, the new Silent Hill looks pretty damn dissapointing since it's basically the same shit, but Dead Space has my eye. Is it actually scary? It looks like RE4 in space.
I friend of mine completed it twice, he thinks it is a very very good game - but not really scary. After all, it is splatter in space, maybe a bit like Event Horizon. RE4 had pretty good moments on those regenerators and when the burning guy came out of the fridge or whatever it was (OH - MY - GOD), but I haven't heard about such things in Dead Space yet. Would be great, but if there is nothing scary about it, never mind. There are chopped-off heads waving past you, that alone is a reason to buy it ^^
Even if it isn't scary, I would like to get it anyway. It looks really good. Too much good shit coming out - for once!
The first chapter had a few jumpy moments... but as soon as you get to the later chapters there are few jumpy parts. Sure, playing in the dark with Headphones is key to making it scarier, but it sorta just turns into a more actiony-shoot-everything kind of game. Its still a wonderful game, but the scare wore off for me.
I watched a short but really interesting developer interview where they discussed the audio design for the game, and I was pretty much sold on that. It'll probably be the next game I buy.
i for sure want to play this game. it looks pretty awesome. a buddy of mine said you're like an errand boy the entire game. so i'll probably just rent it.
Yeah your characters a mute which is a bit disappointing. The art direction is fairly decent though. I'd say playing with Headphones/Decent sound setup late at night and on a difficulty you can actually die (So that's hard or higher) the game will deliver at least some jumps here and there.
I'll have to pick it up after Gears 2 and Tomb Raider. If I'm lucky I'll get my 360 back on Gears 2, and i'll probably be stuck to that 'till tomb Raider on the 19th.
I'm really looking forward to playing this game. I hopefuly will get it next weekend (waiting on my friend from EA to get me a copy for cheap). A coworker said he at first though it was kind of meh but the more he played it the more he got into it and did a few times find a few parts scary.
This is my GOTY. It was fucking phenomenal. Go play it, seriously. The ending was so awesome. A total treat on 5.1 sound, very spooky.
I liked RE4 on the cube and loved it on the Wii. I shat bricks on REmake on the GC, due to atmosphere and low ammo. I ve only played the demo of Dead-space and the game is "suspenseful" and very very dark - to the point that I m not interested in buying the whole experience. I m a mario-man at heart, I like mostly colorful, go-happy games with a twisted sense of humour (too bad Conker has been the sole representative of this combination so far) My friend though finished the game on the PC and it's his favourite game of this year, so it's certainly worth it. He told me he jumped a few times too, so that should satisfy the scaryness test .
It's seriously awesome. The demo doesn't do it justice. The cool thing is I think it's the same experience on anything you play it on. Only thing I heard was the 360 version was a tiny bit better looking if you stuck them side by side, but it's not enough to care. The PC one I guess has better resolution, but whatever, it's awesome, especially on a good sound system.
Hmmmm...I dunno if I've played that many scary FPS's/whatever though. This game definitely had an immersion factor.
I jumped a lot in Fallout 3. Enemies will jump out run at you and attack you from behind. I don't know if anyone else has had that experience. I'm definitely going to have to try out Dead Space though. I've heard a lot of good things about it.
