I was looking around for mountian bike parts recently and saw that no matter what I did in advanced serach, I could not get certain auctions to pop up at all. From my findings the only way to see these items was to browse a specific category and manually look through hundreds of listing with the "ending soonist" tab. At first I thought it was just an anomoly with bike parts, but then I saw it was also happening in the video games section. I guess I didn't notice at first because there are a lot of power sellers that specialize in video games so the serach results are not as limited, But when I did the category browse the reults exploded into stuff that I could search for on thier own. What gives? Am I missing something here? I went to the ebay boards and noticed a kind of "sweeping it under the rug" attitude among the admins from ebay who were responding to the various "I can't search for an item" threads that were posted. In fact the search forum on ebay is filled with this type of thread and nobody seems to have an answer or workaround. I know this is obvious, but is ebay cooking the search results and hiding the auctions of non-power sellers? BTW, I hav been using ebay for a decade, so I have had a workaround most of the time but nothing is working for me now.
I am looking for a work around and/or other peoples experience with the issue; just gathering information. Yes, I do know.
Can you give an example item and search that doesn't produce it? I've found the following anomalies: Items in a foreign store don't show up when signed in to eBay UK. Some items in a US store don't show up under a regular search.
The one I remeber off the top of my head is non-video game example, but I when I get home today I will list the unsearchable video game auctions I saved. I was looking up Atlus A10 cranksets. When you type in "Atlus" you get nothing in the search results even when tweeking the advanced settings in various ways. But if you browse the "cranksets" section and look through all the listing one-by-one you can actully find a couple of "Atlus A10" cranksets that are not searchable in any way (BTW, that are being sold by a non-power sellers). That means there is stuff with the exact title I am searching for (no mispellings), but don't show up unless I browse and do not use the search function at all. Like I said I didn't notice with video games because the listings are always quite plentiful from power sellers, but when I started to look for more niche stuff that have a range of products in the same category all of a sudden some items were hidden from the search. Also there are lots of threads just like this on the ebay board, but none of them have any explanations or workaround, just a whole lot of "its your fault, you are searching wrong" etc. Maybe this is some of what I am seeing
I think anyone noticed but, when you list something in eBay()com you have the option to list the item in eBay UK and to the rest of the world (and have to pay fot that, like 0.85 or something). The auctions from sellers that don't want to pay simply don't show when you log in at ebay()com, you have to log in at ebay()co()uk to see them on the lists. That's not an issue.
I would reccomend staying off the Ebay boards, it's been my experience that if you actually say anything bad about Ebay, they simply ban you. Because thats' what happened to me. Started a few threads about some of my auctions that got pulled for no good reason - at least, no explaination (or refund) was given to me. They pulled my thread, then when I made another they banned me for 7 days and threatened to boot my account. And really, there's no one to complain to. Seems as if Ebay truly does not give a fuck. Not even like a complaint line or something, rediculous. The instant a viable alternative to Ebay shows up I'm dumping them like a bad habit.
I've found an example... on our very forums! Yakumo is selling this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170450348392 Click on his other items. 1 item found... and it's not the karaoke unit!
What I have found for a long time is exactly that - if I happen upon an item somehow from a US seller and click on their all items link, sometimes there will be no items. When I go to ebay.com, it works fine. Of course, Yakumo is registered as being in Japan but there's no local eBay, so I guess we can't see his stuff??
The "registered" part it's not the important thing there. You can use your login in any eBay and list from there (or buy/track from there). But there's a fee to list worldwide (at least in the US site).
I'm signed up with eBay.com so I guess the US version. I better have worldwide listings though. I was offered the worldwide shipping option but nothing about which countries I wanted my item to be listed in. Also what's the fucked up 4USD max shipping bollocks all about? It's impossible to list the real shipping charge. eBay is retarded. i couldn't even find the "Buy Now" option. Using yahoo Auctions which isn't even in my native language is much more easy to use with a wider range of options. Yakumo
Yeah, I noticed that. Maybe it has a time delay of a day or two wihich if true is still out of order. If a customer pays for 7 days of listing they should get a full 7 days worth. Again I bring up Yahoo Auctions. The minute you add a listing it's there for all to see. Yakumo
So what I am seeing is a lag in the listing of some auctions? I guess it is possible that an 7 auction that is not viewable will turn up a few days later than its supposed to in a regualr search. I was also unaware that Sellers outside the USA had to pay a premium to be visable inside and outside the USA ebay site.
This is because they make you pay per item for international listing. $0.30 I believe to be seen outside your home area for some items.
the shippng cost restrictions are rediculous. The max you can charge for a game on eBay.co.uk is £2. If you list a bundle of let's say 5 pal Saturn games guess how much you can charge for shipping? Yes that's correct £2. Cocks.
