Is it just here, or is the Wii worth next to nothing second hand?

I just came back from my weekly trip to my local Cash convertors and for the past few months the second hand wii console prices are next to nothing, this week the shop was selling, full systems with boxes for R399 ($49.80) near mint and hardly used, and some dodgy ones without a boxes and accessories for R199 ($24.80),most of them had D2A-D2C so there all chipable and can read DVD-R discs.

Needless to say I picked up all the loose consoles as I pay a lot more for spares, dvd-drives (D2x $30-$40) and motherboards($30+) especially.

I thought its a bit strange especially considering the console still retails for about R1500 ($188)

Strange thing is the second hand games still cost quite a bit between R150-200 ($18.75-$25)

So today when browsing amibay a user from the UK wants £49 for a boxed black mint unit??

Is this a global trend, hows the wii second hand market in your country?

Having trouble selling my Black Wii on the Kiwi EBay(Called Trademe).

Everything Wii just seems completely unsaleable at the moment, not getting good money for my Wii games either. Seem about as popular as Mel Gibson at a Bar Mitzvah.

They're very cheap yeah, major resellers like EB Games and possibly others are selling used Wiis for around $80, which was the price of a wiimote! Pretty good deal when you think about it.

Never seen a fully boxed one for the prices you listed above. Just remember buy them now for parts, people will want them or even yourself. Now is the time to buy.

Wish I had sold my Wii when it was still worth something. Then again, I couldn't know for sure it'd become the ultimate shovelware waggle shitbox.

Wii's and Xboxes are worth nothing. PS3's have retained value a little.

What is happening is the Wii has sold almost 100 million systems world wide and shops are full of used ones and they still struggle to get them out the door at 59 dollars i saw a pawn broker they had almost 20 of the things for that price its so hard to sell a wii console on its own

Seen them for £35 today in Cash Converters. I'm considering it for modding and playing GCN games.

I used to buy bricked Wiis for around £30 each.

I would unbrick them and sell the motherboard (bootmii as boot2 capable) for around £45, DVD logic board for £30, DVD chassis for £19.99

    Bluetooth, Wifi, etc

    used to make plenty.

Then, same day the Wii U was announced, it all stopped - I had to sell everything at around £10 per item just to get rid of them.

You know what's funny? You can buy a Wii and a Wii component cable for significantly less than a Gamecube component cable by itself.

Thats basically what I am doing now, except I tend to replace the whole drive+laser, and then just reuse the dvd-logic board if a customer has a D2-nothing machine, and wants it modded.

The strange thing is there is still a pretty high demand for repairs here, but the SA market is strange, people like repairing units over replacing them with second hand units, I think its because people here have this strange stigma, about used goods being troublesome here, coupled with the fact that most family have large enough homes with enough space to not need to sell or throw away used goods, so they never visit the pawn shops to see the prices.

PS If your ever going to sell off any Wii boards for £10, drop me a pm, or if you ever have any other surplus/cheap parts for that matter :p

Yup, but I dont see it being viable in the next 1-2years with the prices the way they are now, when the Wii-U is finally release it will probably flood the market even more with wii consoles, I see it ending up like the psone consoles, with a abundance of systems for dirt cheap and no one wanting to repair the consoles, and people just ending up buying a Wii-U as it has backwards compatibility., kindof whats happening in the UK at the moment, like what Bad Ad talked about above.

I have around 20x D2A - D2E logic boards, loads of Wifi and bluetooth modules.

We can work out a deal if you want, I have been meaning to offload the last lot for awhile.

    Drop me a PM

I can unbrick motherboards that are old enough to have bootmii installed as boot2 also.

I have a list of the Hollywood chip date code which will let you know what could be repaired.

Also can swap AV encoders (motherboards that work via component, but not composite or vice versa)

Most of the brick consoles we get in are reasonably easy to get working, with the usual software methods, and the others thats completely gone we just use do a board replacements, it will probably work out too much to ship them to you :( ,especially with the current going rate on used systems.

But I will bare that in mind if we get a large enough lot, but that will probably take some time.

I do however have a hole box full of korean motherboards, but there all newer console date codes, and dont have the old rev of boot 2 installed.

PS do you do re-balling on 360 slimlines, I dont trust the local shops here?

When I say bricked, I mean bricked. I.e. will not boot at all - often because someone has downgraded and ended up with a stubbed system IOS.

All koreon boards are not boot2 capable, they were released after the issue was solved with boot1

I knew what you ment ;), you remove the nand, dump it, inject bootmii, get the keys, then rebuild it, with betwiin iirc ,just saying I dont have enough boards that qualify to send over to you to make up for the shipping cost, but as soon as I do I will let you know.

I dont use the term bricked for something that is repairable via software. The Wii scene decided to make about 12389243 types of "brick" and its annoying :(
