Is it possible to create a System 357 Dongle for a board lacking one?

I have seen people selling Namco System 357 boards with either missing or damaged dongles. What I was wondering is if it were possible to clone/modify a dongle to run the game that is on the hdd.

Is this something that could be done or would you need a completely new hdd/dongle set to run any game on the board?

Also, What exactly does a Namco System 357 do if the dongle is not seated properly or missing? Does it give some sort of error sound? Does the system turn off? Does it display anything on the screen?

    I
If a Namco System 357 does not have a dongle plugged in, what would the normal behavior be?

Would you just need the hard drive to create a dongle for the game?

It will complain about dongle, if you have black screen then the PCB is bust and need gpu reballed.

I received the 357 Yesterday, I get three beeps and it turns off. Looks like I will need to get it reflowed/reballed. I will be contacting my local repair shops to see what they can do.

I can honestly say I am kinda surprised that the 357 is a fairly simple system with only the ps3 main board and the small Namco daughter board that connects into the board's usb port. Then again the 246 was kinda similar but it had a larger Namco board.

Speaking of the same, I have two junk 357 I bought for cheap a long while back that on boot does 1 beep then turns off. I tore one apart last night and I am going to try the patches for reflow to see if it recovers and it not maybe try dropping it off at a place that reballs ps3.

There is a video of a guy on youtube also reparing a 357 (via heating/reflow method).

Let me know how it turns out for you.

I have a local place here that should be able to do it, I honestly trust guys who have experience reballing/reflowing ps3 boards since I don not have any.

We also ported Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited to 357 and Tekken 6 BR to 369 hehe. It's stupid that they use different crypto on each system.

    Neat.

Quick question Jackalus. I think we had this talk on arcade otaku in the past. The DC in line you mention is +12 & GND. I tried to test with my multi-meter but since I think it's kind of cheap I could not 100% confirm which is which. So is the left side (if we look at the front of the unit) the +12 line?

Good to know (luckily I have not connected anything to it).
Also again for clarification, Which side is +5? The reason why I keep asking is because none of the 357 units I got had the connector cable but I know it's needed to operate the system. I've actually seen quite a few 357 (working and junk) on yahoo in the past that did not have the cable. =(

If I recall from reading that topic, voltage is pin 1 and ground is pin 2. If you look at luke's video the adapter he has hooked up has a red wire on pin 1 and black on pin 2.

Unfortunately I am still waiting for the repair shop to get their reball/reflow station setup. They need to get the exhaust venting system put into place and that is where the problem seams to lie. I will contact them later this week and see what progress they have made and hopefully I can get this fixed soon.
