now i realize that the original server for the 64dd are long gone but would it be possible to get one back online . I've thought about this for awhile and the
most appropriate option would to make a server like the dreamcast .
i realize creating this thread will cause a wild fire of ideas .

    Everything is possible.

The issue is more finding someone with the knowledge, time and interest to make it happen.

Possible, sure. Lots of things are possible. Likely to happen? No.

    i agree darthcloud
, the best way to do it would to ask one of he original designers of the randnet service how to go about doing such a task. however i doubt anyone here is one of the original designers.

It would be pretty hard to find the people who worked on the server though wouldn't it? It would be cool to monitor where the 64DD is trying to connect to with a web debugging proxy or something like that.

Curious, what exactly did the 64dd even do "online"? I'm not sure what the appeal is honestly. All I can tell you is the number of people owning a 64DD is very low so interest in reviving any online activity will be less than that of the X-Band for SNES and Genesis.

With the randnet disk you could check your email. The only game with online gaming is Japan Pro Golf Tour 64 and it's one of the two rare and expansive games. So only a few of the already few 64DD owner has this game ;)

Sounds like some real incentive right there. Who can resist checking their e-mail on their TV?

As DarthCloud and MottZilla said, it would be possible, though pointless unfortunately.

you could create a localized disruption of time/space which routes your 64dd's data connection back to the time when randnet functioned, should be easy

alot of work though , at the most it would be nice to actually make some use of the modem , and possibly have a distribution of mario art , or play golf . THE BEST PART IS THAT I COULD SEE THE 64DD TRUE POTENTIAL.
ps mario artist communication kit can go online

Does anyone know how the online mode of Japan Pro Golf Tour worked? Do you just enter a friend's phone number and then you can play? If it's that simple it should be possible to play Japan Pro Golf Tour locally over a telephone switchboard.

no it was more complex than that , you would use subscription to randnet to play friends much like xbox live.
