hello everyone, I was in search of a new site that still discussed original xbox modding, because the one I used to go to closed down. I'm having a strange issue with my modded console. I first soft-modded it about 3 months ago and installed a new hard drive. Recently, after about an hour of playing a game or a video, the picture will start to loose focus and jump, similar to those old rabbit ear tv's. there seem to be black lines that will run across the screen while this is happening also until the jumping will take over the screen completely. It will persist even after I turn off the system and reboot it. All of this started after an incident when one night the system failed to boot up. it flashed a red ring and I believe it booted to error code 07. After many attempts of trying to get the system to turn I just let it sit over night and in the morning it booted fine, but then the problem i mentioned above started happening. I noticed that after an incident, If I just leave the system off for a while and try again later it will boot but after a while the problem will happen again. I really hope the problem dosent fall on the harddrive as It was a new Western Digtal 360gb hard drive that I installed into the system.
If anyone can help me I greatly appreciate it.

This is a simple problem. The system is over heating. When the power LED turns red it is a signal that it is over heating. That is why it takes a long time to let you boot the console again. I would check to see if you hooked the fan back up or maybe is it is a 1.0 that the GPU fan stopped working or you forgot to plug it back in. Also since you soft modded it now you can also see what the temp sensors read unless it is a 1.6 console. They do not read temps. If you are running XBMC you can also even turn the fan speed up more.

hi David thanks for responding. I never considered it could be overheating. The fan still runs but when I get home I'm going to see If i can turn the fan higher and see if that helps. Also what are the normal temperature readings I should be getting? how high is too high? I will post my temps later and maybe we could compare them. thanks again
