Hi does anybody know how to make the IS NITRO EMULATOR play retail games? I know it can be done with NDSTOOL.exe but along list comes down and it's just about extracting files from the game. Fixing CRC ect. Anybody have any idea? Thanks Viper
superg: Would you know how to upgrade an IS Nitro Emulator to accept Video Output? Mine unfortunately lacks the "check mark" on the bottom having wireless as it's only option.
Unfortunately I have no idea, mine is also without video output support. Well, technically I think, Nintendo just had composite encoder removed, video output was available as separate "upgrade" option, so I think they were just installing some simple encoder circuit there. Maybe they even have some RGB signals available, I just didn't bothered to look into it.
Yeah I was thinking it was more than just a software upgrade. I opened mine up using same driver bit as an snes and found what looks like a debug port for something nut have no clue what. Why I had theorized it may have been a software upgrade but honestly I wouldn't know where to start. Any chance of what the OP asked as far as retail carts? I have a dev cart but windows 8 isn't compatible with IS NITRO DEBUGGER.
There should be two steps involved: 1. replace/patch system calls in ROM 2. re-encrypt security section back as it should be on official device (ROMs floating on the net have this security section decrypted) 2 is easy, just use ndstool. 1 is more complicated, ROM needs to be patched to use debug routines, to be playable on official debugger. 1 is doable, but I never looked into it. So if you're not software engineer with reverse engineering experience - it would be very difficult to do. EDIT: Also if you'll manage 1 and 2, you will still need to have all possible size combinations of development cartridge backup memory, to be able to save games.
So in other words the IS NITRO EMULATOR is useless then? Its to difficult to play Retails Games then? Thanks Viper
At least I don't know anyone, who succeeded with flashing retail game to debug kart, and run it directly on debugger. You can load retail ROM directly to debugger RAM using PC and official software, you will just need corresponding backup memory size on your flash kart, and active USB connection. But I guess it will not be very useful, because usually people who is interested to use debugger as "consolized" version would like to load games from karts and not to have any active PC connection all the time.
So if we encrypt a DS rom and change the extension to SRL, would it play on something like an R4 with nothing but said SRL file on the sd card or even an OEM Nintendo development flash cart?
Guys, sorry for confusion, I just checked, debugger doesn't load anything directly from flash card, being it official flash kart, retail game, or R4. Now I recall, that debugger kart slot is used only for flashing official flash kart, and for backup memory, which is used when you do game debugging. It was 4 years ago, so I start to forget things . The thing, I told you about official flash kart is applicable only when you use it on ordinary retail NDS. Also SRL will not work on any 3rd party flash kart, like R4, only decrypted ROMs works on R4.
