Yes, it works fine. EU users who want to use RGB should be aware that changing the region to US or JAP will disable RGB output (the picture will be all red), and will enable S-video instead.

I would also like to chip in that even though the Region-free hack does work, it doesn't work 100%. The only Japanese Wii game I own is the Kirby Collection, and it doesn't work at all. It freezes after the warning screen, that teaches you how to use electronics and how the Wii Remote can be held by a human. The only way I found to boot that game was to use AnyRegion Changer and install the JAP dashboard and switch to the Japanese language setting. Using just the Japanese dashboard isn't enough, the System Language actually matters for that game to run :(

I think I could get around it by installing the game onto a USB harddrive and boot it with a loader that allows you to select region specific settings for each game. But it didn't work perfectly when I tried (don't remember all the details), and I really don't want to run my games off a harddrive.

I think it's a rare problem, but it's very annoying. Will a modchip ensure absolute compatibility? If that's the case then I'll consider going that route :)

A program that asks you a few questions and put together a custom mod package with instructions? What a nice idea!

From the looks of things, this program wants to install an actual US OS instead of just changing region and language settings with anyregion changer. This is the best way to change the region then? If I ever ran into issues with Japanese games like bearking, should I go though this process again and install a Japanese OS or would it be okay to just change region and language settings with anyregion?

Okay, I've gotten ModMii and followed the region change wizard. I'm up to the part where I'm suppose to use MMM to install some WADs, but only 2 out of the 12 actually install. All the others fail and say "ticket (-2011)". Checking Google, it seem like this error means "Signature check failed". Maybe I need to use ModMii to re-mod my Wii from scratch or something instead of just doing the region change wizard? Or maybe it was because during the wizard I opted to install v 3.4 instead of 3.1 despite the wizard saying 3.1 was the recommendation.? I figured since my console came with 3.4 it wasn't a good idea to downgrade it. In either case, what should I do now? It would be bad to exit now with only 2 of the WADs installed wouldn't it?

    Did you follow a guide/tutorial?

Originally, I followed a guide, but then I used ModMii. Turned out that the guide I originally followed didn't install something that ModdMii needed. After re-doing the softmod from scratch with ModMii, it succedded and now my Wii is set to NTSC-U with English! Thanks guys!

I've tested it with a Japanese game, and it loading and everything, but some of the text is gibberish and there's "Wiifffffffffffffffff" overlayed over the screen at the top. A problem that comes from running the game on a Wii set to English maybe? Could it be resolved by running AnyRegion again and only changing the language setting (i.e leave region set to US) or would that be a bad idea?

*EDIT* Hmmm, I can't load the Wii Shop, it says I need to do a system update. Which is kinda weird, since I'm running v3.4 which is the final version isn't it? Why is this?

That's probably because the game text is borrowed from the OS.

4.3 is the latest and last firmware for the wii, that's why the shop channel is not working.

If you want to access the wii shop channel then follow this guide.

As for the wii displaying gibberish,it just depends on the games, usually wii games are fine but jpn gamecube games are more prone.

Hmmm, I figured that might be the case, dang. What would the solution to this issue be?

    That did the trick, thanks!

I notice this time around the Shop Channel was asking me to link to my Nintendo account. Is this just related to getting points for Shop purchases? I was under the impression that the Wii didn't have any Nintendo Network functions and thus I woulden't be able to access my stuff from my old Wii by linking my Nintendo Network account to the new Wii.
