Is the Retrocade only way to dump the Mega Drive cartridge? I have 1994 build Panorama Cotton about 4(?) months earlier build. From what I gather the method to dump the ROM is using the Retrocade which is pretty much always out of stock and last time it was back in stock I missed the chance to get one - mind you it's not a cheap device to buy on the whim. If someone knows other way to dump I'd love to find out. (no I can't send away the cartridge since it's reserved already) cheers
You can use a Retrode to dump mega drive carts, there are more than likely plenty of other ways to do so, but I find the Retrode to be pretty easy to use. https://www.dragonbox.de/en/71-retr...416650091.html?search_query=retrode&results=7
Pull eproms and dump (probably not recommended) Use a sega/mega cd transfer cable to dump it. Build your own reader, as they are pretty basic to read. Sanni's card reader works for mega drive. Buy the retrode or other retail card readers. In order of cheapness. If you have the required pc etc, the transfer cable is probably best in easiest/cheapest.
Another easy way to dump normal MD cartridges is to use Krikzz Flashkit MD programmer: https://krikzz.com/store/home/38-flashkit-programmer-md.html It can be a little bit cheaper than a Retrode: https://shop.retrogate.com/everdrive/flashkit-programmer-md-1-buy
eke already mentioned, I also have a krikzz kit and I have had success with it. (few cartridges were not read, but I think the problem was in the cartridge and not in the reader) The mask_of_destiny cable kit works fine, but you need to disconnect a pin from the cartridge to work, plus a functional parallel port. I have a video teaching to use (but it is in Portuguese) I think it will not help you. I have been successful with this cable, but I believe that there is no option to work without the sega / mega CD because you need to run a soft one in each part of the system (one on the sega CD and another on the PC. Check the order of execution of the programs to succeed.
given that this build was about 6 months before the release it didn't look that different from what little I played.
