Is the pippin worth getting? I'm not sure if i should get it. i only found 1 auction for it. http://cgi.ebay.com/JAPANESE-APPLE-...ryZ62054QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem your help is appreciated
I brought one about a year ago, also brand new and never used it.. I don't think there many games out for it so would probably only be decent on a display shelf or something.. I think the Pippin is good in the looks department and would get one if you had the spare cash.. P.S I ended up selling mine but may buy another in a few years time.
If you're not sure about purchasing a Pippin, especially at that price, then I don't think it's worth getting at all.
I would pass... I have a US Pippin, a dev system and a Japanese system and other than the fact that the US system is very obscure, I don't know that I could recommend it to anyone. I was lucky enough to get all the US release games and most of the Japanese ones from Bandai before they shut down the Pippin project. Other than Marathon and a couple of other games, most of which were released on the MAC or PC, there isn't really anything worth playing on the system. It's really just a pretty stock low end Mac.
It has the ultra rare pre-halo super marathon, and a uncommon dragonball game. Piuppin games also have no copy protection.
I found a Pippin for $5 in the junk bin at my local Hard Off when I was living in Japan. It came with one "game" The Carnival of Animals or something, which was basically an edutainment title for 4 year olds. You could click on the elephant and then listen to it play a tune on a piano. Then you could click on the giraffe and watch it drink some water. That sort of thing. For a while I tried to find some games, but it's really close to impossible, even on YAJ they hardly ever show up. The system is good looking and well built as you would expect from a Mac product, but as heavy as an X-Box and the joypad is a complete joke. When the time came to move back I couldn't be bothered to have it shipped for $35, so I just threw it in the trash. Kept the game though, and sold it on Ebay. You should only get it if you're a) a hardcore game console collector, or b) a fanatical Mac fan. Since I'm mainly into games and not so much collecting hardware I didn't get much out of it, although it was an interesting historical excursion (for about 10 minutes).
Get the games first. If you get the rare gundam or Dragonball then it is probably worth getting. Otherwise - giant paperweight.
"citcelaid - You should only get it if you're a) a hardcore game console collector, or b) a fanatical Mac fan." i am both of these so what price should I pay for one.
US Pippin costs a lot more... when they even show up. There have been a few on Ebay, but mostly without any software. If you're short on cash, the Pippin and 64dd aren't good options. Actually, not much in the way of obscure systems can be had cheaply. Sad, but true.
If you are looking for a cheap pippin, I have seen them go boxed and in mint conditions for 99 euro from a dutch ebay seller named: rklok I have had my doubts on buying one as the machine is totally useless in my eyes, just wanted to test some downloaded titles on it and maybe keep it as a collectors item.. but to really play games I think it would suck big time
There's a nice one on Ebay.com.au, mint in box plus it has two infra-red ordering handsets for use in a restaurant apparently. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Bandai-ATMARK-Pippin-Console-Boxed-Great-cond-JPN_W0QQitemZ290140948215QQihZ019QQcategoryZ50171QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I guess I'll throw in my two cents. The Pippin is a pretty cool machine, but recommended for collectors only in my opinion, not gamers. Price ranges listed above are pretty accurate for the Japan release of this system (add the shipping though). The @World model will cost you allot more - the Katz Media model, that much more. The Pippin system is pretty cool and one of my favorites (all models). The Nintendo 64DD is another expensive proposition - especially CIB. If you are a gamer and have limited discretionary capital to invest into gaming, these systems are probably not what you are looking for. Hope this helps.
If you like looking at chunks of plastic or boxes then the Pippin is the machine for you. If you want to play a few games then the pippin will pip you off..... I'll get me coat.
The Pippen is the worst system ever released. Get it, but only as a joke. Hook it up to a hi def flat tv and play it only for the irony.
