Definitely see this happening & totally agree that scalpers who hog the current CE/LE versions will end up the hardest hit. Pretty much none of the LE stuff that has been released in the past few years are anywhere near "rare".

Also hate how these LE boxes would include cheap junk like pins, buttons, paper masks, plastic figurines etc etc & then charge a crazy premium for it.

limited editions are for people who can't control their urges.

Like people who bought duke nukem with the bust.

I don't know, limited editions are good (for gaming in general) when they give you things that can't be pirated. Then again, I'm thinking of things like the recent "first print" editions of SMT4 & Killer is Dead which gives you some extras for the same price. Were the t-shirt, boxers, pillowcase & fancy packaging worth and extra $20 for the "Love Is Over" edition of Catherine? I think so, especially compared to the Duke Nukem LE, which was priced way above the regular retail. Funny that it included a "bust". It also included a little statue too. :p

XxHennersXx, Pink Godzilla is legit! I spent a lot of time (and money) there when I lived in Seattle.

too many retro gamers out there right now for it to die down. I believe in collecting games I want to play, I don't seek a game just because I don't have it, I seek it to play it

"Limited" and "Collectors" lost their purpose when they started producing tens of thousands of them. Most of them end up on bargain bins.

Even when it's a really limited edition, companies can't control the ammount of sales for each person. Remember what happened with Ni no Kuni Wizard Edition?

Also hate the whole DLC preordering by purchasing "Season Passes". Just read that Call of Duty Ghosts with a Season pass will cost 120 dollars.

And you know what? They'll sell millions of it, as these suckers buy anything with Call of Duty or Battlefield on the name.

I think that if the Retron 5 is successful, then the collecting market (at least for the games it accepts) will be alive and well. This means the local retail shop will still be selling loose carts of SMB for $25 each. :\

Now, the best way to play some rare and insanely expensive games is a flashcart.I wont pay high prices for certain games, but some days ago I watch a facebook friend's rant for missing an auction for a overpriced and overrated NES Flintstones 2 videogame... Yes! He made a whole drama for a mediocre game. The Video Games crash is coming, there'll be blood

Rawgabbit hipsters will tell you that's because the NES is the first videogame console!

I know using the word rawgabbit, ironically nonetheless, is hipster as fuck.

And they'd be wrong since the Atari 2600 was released 1977. I don't think it was even the first console either.

The Fairchild Channel F was released in 1976. I think it was the first game system to use ROM cartridges. The first 'console' so to speak was the Magnavox Odyssey which was released in 1972, but that was simply a Pong machine that used jumper cards to move the ball and paddles elsewhere on the screen.

the thing is also that nowadays, anyone can play any games just download it on their pc - in roms , no matter what. So collecting videogame is also for the aspect of owning the real item. their prices will probably increases as further as they aged - they might value more in 40 years and so on as further as less original copies can be found.

I think part of the reason old game prices are so high are because of a few things, including the fact that most collectors are about as bad or worse than comic book collectors, and people are too lazy to mess with their Wiis/Android based computer devices. Even if the Everdrive and SD2SNES were at least 25% cheaper somehow, prices wouldn't be that affected.

the only threat to retro collecting that i see coming atm is the current trend of reproduction boxes and manuals, i'm seeing more and more every week and in most cases the they are being passed off as original.

good i say flood the market, some prices on MD/SNES and NES games are stupid and people are pushing up the prices trying to make a quick $£$£, but it's all suppy and demand, if demand drops so will price and demand will eventually drop as will the number of working consoles especially CD based systems.

I think parts of the scene have already started to crash. Nintendo related properties haven't yet, but I've been seeing a drop in prices on Sega stuff.
