I'm starting to believe there is big money being paid by hidden interests to smear the console industry. All blogs criticizing consoles come with the same tired argument: blahblah the vita isnt selling billions just millions blahblah the current gen is too long blahblah TABLETS!*fap*fap*fap* 9 out of 10 times is some obvious sellout "evangelist" paid to spew bullshit about consoles, the other times its a piece of shit "entrepreneur" with another retarded facebook game nobody gives 2 fucks about, or some dumbass fanboy who discovered apple existed when he bought an ipad 2 months ago But the social games industry is doing like shit compared to consoles, zynga which was supposed to be the best is going down, loosing their freeloader zombie users to even dumber games, and facebook had one of the worst IPOs in history A guy I know who used to work at some app startup put it simply: there is not money in social crap, photos, chat, social ads are so pathetic everybody is taking their money out, GM did so and thats why fb stock tanked. The only sector in the industry making some money are social games, which are churn by the ton (hence the "high quality") so my theory is that the startup industry which excels like no other at promoting terrible unprofitable ideas (color, path, twitter and pinterest, none of them makes any money) is trying to destroy consoles to get the insanely profitable console gamers to switch And I say insanely profitable because $60 per game is a fuckload of money for social game peddlers: most of their users play for years and never pay for shit, only a few do and when you get down to it it's like $0.05 per user. You know how expensive it's to keep servers running for millions of players? social gaming is unsustainable as it is unless they get people to actually pay from time to time. So my opinion is they are getting desperate, and thus funding a smear campaign against consoles in a desperate attempt to get the entire $120 billion videogame market, and not just the little crumbs console makers wont even bother to pick up
The problem with "evangelists" is that people tend to believe them "de facto" and then starts to repeat their arguments without even noticing the idea doesn't come from themselves. The same happens with "bad" or "garbage" radio stations/newspapers that does hateful ignorant propaganda, and with politicians using sophism and half-truths all the time to eventually convince people with their bullshit. If tomorow the big media and newspapers make reports about "How consoles are bad for you, your wallet and your leisure!", you would be surprised about how many people will talk about that subject using the same arguments as if they were theirs, believing it is theirs... It'd create the downfall of consoles.
Yeah, a conspiracy must be why the Vita is selling like shit...instead of, you know, a lack of games (amongst other things).
You mean gems like this: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/politics/4358808/Shocking-health-and-safety-cases.html May not be legit?!?! Say it isn't so!
I'm not sure there is a vendetta against consoles or smear campaigns. The market has been disrupted by Apple, social apps and games, there is no denial. The danger in any market is wishful thinking from the market itself, this never ending belief that the only way is up. It doesn't take into account that interests from their audience may change, for example because people get bored playing video games, that selling games at $0.99 has devalued the market or that people spend more time away from video games. We are being served the same thing over and over, Mario Paper Sticker seriously? The economic crisis is another factor, people have less money to spend and video games will take the toll on that. Additionally, I wouldn't guarantee that there is still a $120 billion market to be picked up by the social games companies. The industry has been growing dramatically over the past 10 years but there is no telling that this industry has not reached a peak in its maturity. Quite frankly Sony and MS are making a smart move by not releasing a new system, Nintendo is making a huge bet with the Wii U, I hope they'll succeed, but the overall proposition feels very weak.
You dont get it, is not that the vita isnt doing like shit but that these assholes keep telling it like if thats an indicator that all consoles are doing like shit
The industry has been in new territory lately. Who knows what really will happen. Part of the struggles are game development of AAA titles tends to be very expensive and the resulting sales don't always mean profits. But sadly the development of stupid and more casual games is quite cheap and can be very profitable. Really if developers can control costs but keep game quality acceptable they will be ok. Launching a new console right now would seem foolish since it would be very costly and the 360 and PS3 are still quite capable. The WiiU is an exception since it is basically Nintendo catching up to the current generation. Also Nintendo is loaded with cash. Although what is really telling is while I have interest in some of the new games coming out in the future I'm more interested in going back and playing much older games that I haven't played ever or not in awhile. The gaming industry has alot of competition for your cash and time.
It's just this new market for casual games trying to say that their way is the future and that consoles is the past. It's a real question of how much the casual games are disrupting the consoles or core gamer market. I don't know about you but I haven't stopped buying console games just because these low budget casual games have come out. I don't really plan on changing that unless casual games can deliver the same experience as console games. If bloggers and journalist would realize this concept I don't think they would be saying so much gloom and doom for the console industry.
What I find amusing is that nobody sees the connection between social games and the 83 crash: in those days much like today you had all these small game companies rushing to the market with a fuckload of some of the worst games in history. ET wasnt a AAA game, IIRC it was made by one guy in the space of two weeks. And many of these social games startups are getting way more money from investors than a AAA game's budget, and many even say they have no business model nor clear idea of how to make money besides offering virtual goods and hope for the best. If this goes down it could get ugly, not just because of all the money down the drain but because like I said many social networks depend on games for what little revenues they get.
It's a bunch of dumb ass clowns who think they know which direction the industry is going despite not knowing any of it's history not to mention a TON of band wagon jumping. It's like a this "cloud" crap and how it'll change the IT sector, hello we have had thin clients for over 30 years now.
That's very silly to be honest. The Industry goes where the money goes, and now it's going to devices that have bigger potential audience. I feel that all that will happen is that dedicated game consoles will go back to being a niche, and like the crash in the 80s, PC gaming will continue to be alive.
Conspiracy: "an agreement between persons to deceive, mislead, or defraud others of their legal rights, or to gain an unfair advantage" It's not rocket science, it doesnt gets more complex than that. See all those laws about journalists not being able to receive "gifts" or preferential treatment? thats because before those laws all journalists were mercenaries paid to write whatever their employers wanted How you think Edison managed to deceive the world and made them think his shitty electrical system was better than Tesla's? Lots and lots of bad press manufactured to make Tesla's system look bad Again, theres way too much money in all this to just label it an "accident", the social games industry is closer to the dotcom industry than the gaming industry: if you look at the guy who made zynga, what he did before that? a dotcom, and before that another dotcom. He's not a gamer nor a developer, and his games aren't available on consoles or PC but facebook.
It might be just me but I thought the True consoles died when they stopped the whole "bit wars" ended shortley after the Dreamcast nowdays consoles are just slimline PC's. only difference is that the software you buy for a console will 99% of the time work unlike PC's. Don't get me wrong the whole specs thing has been around from the start but back in the 90's (yes I realise times have changed but for the worse IMO)it was oooh Mortal Komabt was better on Mega Drive than Snes cause of the blood but the SNES version had better sound and graphics and the whole 16 bit is better than 8 bit etc. (which wasnt always the case with the Jaguar). Now all games are virtually the same except console exclusives. DLC especially on disk probably hasnt helped consoles out either.
@camdman snes, mega drive. all based on computer parts, or embedded systems, all based on earlier pc based stuff. Its more about why is "random john low on money" buying a console instead of a pc or the other way arround?
Tablets are the best thing for gaming , First person shooters play really well On ipad. NO seriously You can't play a first person shooter on and ipad Its just impossible. I have spent hours on battlefield and the mind can't flow fluently with the controls.
