Hey. Quick question. I currently have 3 types of video connection for my DCs. I have: RF Mod Composite S-Video I know you can do VGA and Scart but Im not interested in those. I was wondering if there is a type of componet cable I can get for it. Otherwise I suppose I will be using S-Video >_>
i guess you could convert the VGA box stuff into component (soldering), but i ve never see the DAC chip nude to judge the ease of the process
i know you can get component to vga transcoders, but unsure if there is anything that does it vice versa. you can buy vga to component cables but these only support certain TVs
hmmmm. No biggie. I can live with S-Video until I find a VGA box somewheres. Thanks for the help guys!
To the above poster... http://www.racketboy.com/store/cables-accessories/sega-dreamcast.htm VGA Cable AND VGA/S-Video/Composite Breakout Box. http://tinyurl.com/2l25bl eBay: "dreamcast vga" I'd like the same thing too, but I don't see anything from Google about a "VGA to component convertor." Sucks. S-video will have to do in the interim. Although if you can deal with using a computer monitor from time to time...
VGA -> components needs a sync combiner circuit + sync clipper circuit + RGB to component transcoder. For the non progressive games you will need just the RGB to component part. To have a cable which does both is a little bit more complicated but it is possible. I plan to make one once I get a progressive scan TV. This should be the ultimate DC video connection since you get all the benefits of 15 and 31 kHz RGB on a common TV set.
I didn't think non-progressive games would run with the VGA box in? (Not that there are many of them)
I would assume that any (DC) game that supports VGA must support progressive scan as VGA is pro-scan by default.
I got a VGA box and VGA-Component signal transcoder about half a year ago so I could play DC games via component. Looked very nice till my transcoder died (about 10 minutes after I used it for the first time), but I ordered it from some no-name company in california which had pathetic customer support, so I cut my losses and forgot about it. About $150 when all was said and done.
They won't, 480i only games will either give a 480i output (which a VGA monitor can't sync with) or the game won't start because it knows you want 480p. Component video supports both 480i and 480p (and higher) though, so you can switch between 480i and 480p on a single component connection (depending on what the game supports) just as you can switch between VGA and S-video on the VGA box. All you would be doing is turning VGA into component and RGB into component and flipping between the two connections, essentially making a "progressive scan" switch. Right, specifically 480p, but it's that VGA monitors can't display interlaced video by default. All that can are exceptions to a rule.
