please exuse me for being a newb but is there a way, with today's tecnology, to make a cd that doesent need a game enhanser, modchip, or boot disc? I know there has been a lot of bs out there and this topic may seem old but i just want to know if it is possible?:dejection:
This was a very hot topic back in the day. But like mentioned, not with any consumer grade equipment.
On a PS1 disc, there is a tiny little 16 sector wobble groove that has the licencing data pre-pressed. Only the special Sony burners could burn this code before writing the files. Sure, there is a way to do it by hacking your drives firmware, and telling it to burn the special wobble groove that make the according SCEE/SCEI and SCEA licence data, but this is what the modchip does. It injects the licence data at the right time to allow the copied disc to boot.
I am verey experinced in hardware moding and i wish to know how.. I have a bunch of cd\dvd drives that are spare parts i can program a pic so how could i do this firmware mod it sounds interesting. p.s. can i mod a dvd drive to make xbox homebrew? reason for all this self boot stuff is because i would like to make homebrew and distribute it among my friends (not for $) without telling them they need to chip their xbox or playstatrion because it is obvios that no one (that i know) wants to, or even know how to mod their console. a tutorial will be much appreciated -pepster98
yes i know i have free mcboot but still i would like to do psx and xbox games i just ot a psx and i would like to mod an old cd driver to make games i want to do the same for 360... if it is possable
do you know the way? you know... to mod the burner to input the licence data. i would apreciate youre help. reason is because i want to start making homebrew for ethier xbox 360 or psx (if there is a way doing the same with xbox) however my friends arent going to mod their consoles or let me mod it for them. basicly i would like to have a replicated disc to hand out to friends. lol been looking all night for the firmware.:grief:
I guess I'll answer what Bad_Ad84 thought but couldn't due to unstoppable laugh/cry Even if you had the knowledge, experience and tools to modify your burner's firmware, you still wouldn't be able to create your own "bootable" PS1/PS2 discs (I'm not familiar with other console's protection, so I'll only mention these). Although the pre-pressed license data can be read by every CD/DVD drive, writing in that area can't be accomplished by any burner available in the consumer market. The area where the license data is pre-pressed is not part of the "writable"/recordable area of the disc. I can't provide more details, but Google is your friend... or maybe someone else can add to what I provided.
This is totally false. Sony never made any CD burners that could write a disc that would boot on a retail console. It is true there is an encoding of licensing letters in a certain area of retail discs which the console must read in order to read anything else on the disc. Modchips inject this as it is the exact same code on every disc of the region of console you are using. The same sort of thing is done on Sega Saturn modchips, the outter area of the disc contains encoded data that must be present to allow reading the disc and thus loading of the game. It might be possible to modify a CD writer to burn the licensing code on CD-Rs. However, the Playstation has existed for over a decade and no one yet has ever released any modified drive firmware to do this. Thus it seems unlikely that it is possible. Although the fact that modchips are dirt cheap has an effect too. Note that Turbo Grafx CD and Sega CD and NeoGeo CD all can be burned on any burner as they have no copy protection.
People have been trying to do this for over 15 years mate, so give up your search you wont find anything dreamcast you will be able to do but no console any later than that
Sony have 0 reason to have EVER made a burner that could do this. Devs had debug units that would play CDR, pressed copies had the data. There was NO need for a burner to exist, even if it was technically possible. Sounds like Haunted has filled in his own gaps of the story.
