There are a few Saturn games that I believe were completed then left unreleased, including...

Adidas Power Soccer (supposedly owned by at least one prototype collector)
Chill (surfaced a few years back - would have been one of the last PAL releases)
Fighting Force (magazines showed review code, but only an alpha build has leaked)
Reloaded (reviews were printed, and one magazine even offered to give this away!)
Return Fire (another that's been circulating for quite a while, and I really like it)
Saturn Virtua Fighter 3 (you really don't want to get me started on this subject...)

Also, wasn't Dee Dee Planet for the Dreamcast pretty much ready for release and only pulled at the very last minute due to some major game-breaking bug in its network code?

This game was close to completed? Not trying to poke the bear, just never knew that

I'll try and keep this as short as possible... for those of you familiar with what I can get like, right?

According to at least two sources (including a Japanese magazine with known connections and an as-yet-unidentified insider who passed on the same information to Sam Pettus, author of the SegaBase editorials), Saturn Virtua Fighter 3 - so named to differentiate this from the Dreamcast conversion in development by Genki - was completed in July 1998 and swiftly rejected by management at Sega of Japan. An undeterred AM2 then spent the next few weeks making considerable improvements to its engine, supposedly delivering a finished master to a pressing plant for an immediate release. However, just hours before the first copies were due to be made, an order was given that led to the project being cancelled outright in favour of VF3tb. I've been contacted in the past by several people I believe to be reliable concerning a series of private playtesting sessions that happened behind closed doors at various trade shows following the decision not to release this, which occurred in September '98.

During an earlier press conference in November '96, Yu Suzuki personally announced that the conversion would go into production as his team's next project after Fighters Megamix, having already conducted months of extensive technical research and concluding that it was possible to his own high levels of satisfaction. For the record, it should be pointed out that AM2 weren't just not using the Eclipse cartridge, but this hardware upgrade wasn't even known to staff at SOJ, being something conceived within the offices of their American counterparts, though clearly Sega Europe was also aware of this as their Marketing Director at the time, Andy Mee, notoriously compromised his position by openly confirming that VF3 would take advantage of this device when that was not the case, leading to journalists running with false stories.

I'm hoping this is still correct, as it's actually been a while since I last spoke at such length about the matter and I don't presently have my research notes at hand!

IIRC it's included in that infamous picture containing all the DC games arranged sloppily in a SEGA facility.

Indeed. While that doesn't necessarily mean it was almost finished, I do remember hearing/reading the same thing regarding the network code.
    Anthaemia linked above.

EDIT: I just looked through the rest of SoA's pictures. I could spend a lifetime in there.

There was to be a port of Asteroids for the 5200, but it never came out. Not only that, but they were also slated to release Battlezone on the 5200, but again, it never came out.

Sound Fantasy was finished. But it was never released. The one I host is an earlier version, unfortunately.
But there are footage of the final version.

And it's not recorded footage on powerpoint, like Toshio Iwai usually does, he brought the game with him. So I'm pretty sure he owns the final version. I just wish he could in a way let us play it...

Wow, Sound Fantasy actually looks like it could be very fun to mess around with.

There is probably a lot of smaller games and indie games that were nearing finish or are as good as finished.

I for one still have a android 2 player digital board game that is near finished and fully playable, save planned online feature. That never came out due to negligence of the guy programming (I did art, design and some math support. As I at that time only could program BASIC). Now, as far as I know, most if not all development files are lost aside from physical prototypes. But the APK I still have.

If anyone is interested I could upload it, at least than other can play it. Hahaha

It's not even remotely close to finished. It crashes periodicly, some of the game is inaccessible, there's serious camera and control issues, missing content, the list goes on.

Could you elaborate a bit more on this? I'd love to see the footage.
