After almost beating Policenauts I must say I need to play snatcher on the Sega CD. I'd love to play it with the light gun. But is there any way to get it to work with a LED TV
Not on it's own, LED/LCD TV's don't have scanlines for the guns to work. Been itching to play HOTD on the Dreamcast for ages as well.
Unfortunately, the only light gun I know for non-current consoles that works on LCD TVs is the LCD Topgun, which works on PS2/3, Xbox and PC...
Like 7Force said, there's been some replacement guns made to work with LCD TV's but as far as I am aware there's nothing for pre-PS2 consoles.
It really sucks because as soon as we got nice big screens they dont have the guns to play these great games. I would love a house of the dead widescreen remake on the 360 with a nice accurate gun.
Does the PS3 light gun work like the Wiimote? Meaning that you have to point at the sensor? IIRC, it at least uses an infrared signal.
won't work on plasma's either. Get a top gun for certain consoles, the other games just hope or settle for wii releases.
Yeah but i dont have the space or want a 32" CRT. I want a light gun for my 50" screen oh and some widescreen games.
That doesn't sound right. All TVs and Monitors have "scanlines". That's how the picture signal works. Each line is drawn. The reason Light Guns don't work on LED or LCD TVs is because of the method of display isn't what Light Guns were designed to operate with. CRT's display in a manner that beams light torward the player and into the lens of the Light Gun. On any other display type, this doesn't work. The TV on your LCD or LED may beam some light torwards the lens but Light Guns rely on the scanning behavior of the CRT. Even though you can't see it, most of your TV's image on a CRT is ghost image in your eye. I'm not going to go on explaining it but traditional CRT displays are what Light Guns were designed for. Due to the way CRTs worked it made this technology pretty easy. It's also important to note that High Def CRTs are not likely to work with these guns as the scanning behavior of the TV probably differs. The Wiimote uses the Sensor bar with some Infrared lights to determine AIM. Similarly the PS3's Guncon 3 uses 2 TV mounted sensors to determine AIM. The LCD Top Gun is again going to be similar. It make be possible to make a LCD Top Gun type lightgun for older systems if you added some hardware to watch the video signal. The pS2 Guncon2s already do that which is probably part of why the Top Gun exists. Bottom line, if you like Light Gun games you need to own a good size Standard Def CRT. If possible get one with S-Video and Component Video. Reading Material, not sure if it's totally accurate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_gun
I'm sure I've said this before, but I really can't understand Namco. Why go to all that effort and financial investement creating the Guncon 3 just for Time Crisis 4? Where's the Time Crisis and Point Blank collections for the PS3 at least? Considering the new Guncon has half a Dual Shock glued onto it, there's a huge potential there that's been totally unused. I have no interest in playing lightgun games with the Move: I want to use a proper lightgun.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_gun#Cathode_ray_timing Scanlines might not have been the correct term, but the point is the same:
I knew what your point was and it was correct but the term seemed odd. _SD_, I agree with you. I don't see myself even getting a Guncon 3 or TC4 personally. The Guncon 2 was a much better deal. Great accuracy, good game selection, good price. I loved playing TC2 and Vampire Night on my PS2. TC4 I don't have much interest in, and I really don't like their console exclusive FPS mode which is intended only for right handed people which I'm not. Plus from the videos I saw of it, it looks poorly executed.
YOU WOULD But yeah, this would be an interesting idea. Though since a scanline will traverse the entire screen many times per second, I don't think it would necessarily be plausible due to the refresh rate of even modern displays. Maybe I'm wrong? Ideally, as previously mentioned, we would just be able to use the TC4 gun with old games, and have code translate the gun's normal output into something the game understands.
