Hi I'm in the market for some new PS1 controllers and have came across this model. Everything looks legit besides for the Asian text down the side. Is this a legit Asian controller of a fake model?
They're listed as "Sony PlayStation 1 PS1 Original Dualshock Controller SCPH-1200 Gray". They look the part and when I zoom in I can't see any sign of fakeness. I dunno, I've never seen a box with the Asian text along the bottom. Paintwork and cable all look like the real deal...
Packaging does look right but I haven't seen Asian font used before. Looks Chinese, and I don't remember them allowing PSX or any game consoles back then.
I want to say yes. But there have been so many bootlegged versions it's hard to tell with the packaging these days. Where are they shipping from? What is the sellers name? Where is their actual location? These kinds of things can help give it away sometimes. Also: Does it have to be new? you might be better off with some used but definitely genuine ones.
The grey pads are UK based but he has like 10+ of them so you can maybe conclude that he has bought a boatload of fakes. The packaging looks suspect. The green is UK bases but has the correct 5 language descriptions on the back that most PAL-EURO stuff that's legit comes with and the barcode on the back has been scrubbed out with a marker like it was once shop stock so I'm leaning towards that one being legit. The package is worn and trashed as well which helps validate the age of it. I'm sick of buying used. I can happily refurb them as I have in the past but they always feel loose... I want to secure a few new models before they vanish.
I've not seen an unopened DualShock box before (born too late to be playing with the original PlayStation), but there's the Asian region (03) and so there is likely a local release of accessories in territories that fall under it. Hong Kong, Taiwan and some other countries use the Chinese language, not just China. Plus given that it's traditional Chinese, it's likely from Hong Kong.
