so I needed new solder after awhile and forgot about the different ratios and types of solder

what I bought is super thin, the specifications are: 63/37 tin/lead, rosin core, 0.8mm, flux 2%

I'm not trying to ruin my dreamcast controller board so is this solder ok to use even though its like mini-paperclip thin?

Any rosin core solder should be ok to use, just be careful and practice on junk first if you haven’t used a soldering iron before

You are using 63/37 tin/lead solder, fine, the lead content will make it easier.
Lead free solder (newer electronics) is a pain to work with, if you not got the right tools.

To make it easier on yourself use flux, liberally, and clean it of afterwards with IPA.
(Iso Prophyl Alcohol) it vaporizes very fast.

i've used a soldering iron before to install an sd card adapter and install a CD access light to my dreamcast, but this solder seems so thin i wanted to get second opinions before i went ahead and used it. i'm going to do the clock battery replacement

Thin solder is easier to control but once melted is the same, thick is better for quickly filling a power joints but rarely has any other advantages
