I got a load of games recently, and this was amongst them. I found it quite unusual - especially the 3 manuals, including an English language one with that logo!
Thats...wierd. I don't rember the Japanese cover having english on it, or having a "Asian Version" label on it...Guess i'll have to check again, but i'm pretty sure it didn't...
It says "Made in Japan" though. I'm guessing Singapore/Taiwan would manufacture games for their own market--cheaper.
I was going to say, with the "Asian Version" sticker on it, it's most likely a mainland, southern Asia release - I don't believe that the Japanese would label their own release as an Asian one, and Asian game releases often have instructions or other parts of the game in English.
No; it's an Asian cart, meant for PAL Asian regions, such as Hk and Singapore. Definitely not a Japanese release; I have a number of similar releases, including Shining Force, as well as Asian market 32X games. The country of manufacture means absolutely nothing. That is an Asian-market cartridge without a doubt. The coverart is similar to the JP version but that's it.
I thought it might be a pirate because of the Made in Japan thing. Looks to nice to be a pirate though.
Guys it's not a pirate. I's a Japanese Sonic 2 made for release in Hong Kong, Singapore and so on. Nothing special about it. All they do is take the Japanese game and stick some English Instructions in it the slap an ASIAN VERSION sticker on to the cover. Seen many games like this. Take away the extra books and the Asian sticker and it's just a regular Japanese version. Yakumo
Can anyone tell me at what point the Asia/Hong Kong region switched from PAL to NTSC? A lot of older releases were of PAL format (PAL I, isn't it?) but it seems all the Asian release games now - PS2, XBox, etc. as well as the illicit copies, are NTSC.
Hong Kong is still PAL... but then technically, so is Brazil. Its just they import so many games from Japan (its easier) that they end up using NTSC systems... I think!
Hong Kong is really dual format because everything is imported from everywhere. Most people in HK use NTSC/220v consoles but yes TV broadcasts in PAL. HK's FC was NTSC, HK's NES was released in NTSC and PAL I think, HK's PCE was NTSC (but most people converted to PAL), HK's MD was PAL (but most imported NTSCJ consoles), HK's SFC was PAL, HK's SNES was PAL (but most ordered NTSCJ), Saturn was never released in HK so people used NTSCJs, Sony created the official Asian playstation region (SCPS titles) so there must have been an official Asian 220v/NTSC playstation that played NTSCJ games, and from then on consoles were NTSC and now the only "asian" person in the market is Sony. BTW, NOWADAYs HK has "Asian" cartridges but in the day, they didn't push them like you might think. "Asian" games were really released in mainland, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Phillipines etc anywhere else in the pacific rim not specifically Hong kong this is the cartridge equivilent to "world" (from the arcades). "Asian" region stuff is actually a whole seperate region from Japan and some games might not be compatible with a Japanese console if they require a PAL/J setting. "Asian" games do NOT hold the same value as a Japanese title due to their extra availability and their generally bad condition (you will NEVER find a new "Asian" title because they don't exist...) I think all "Asian" games are repacked with used Japanese games except for a few big name titles which got printed specially with a European Mega Drive style label.
