I am watching this pre-launch preview video of the sega 32x and it has a Star Fox looking clip in it from 0:41-0:46. Is this from anything? Or is it likely just part of a short technical demo? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cffv-9Fac-s#t=46
Oh wow, a blast from the past that video is. The game in question is Star Wars Arcade. A very early version of it too.
great subject! ... it goes to show, they tried here, really did, and took pride in their product. i want a 32x now, just on the sales pitch alone. :smile-new: (despite not many games, what was available clearly quality at the least. must've been a slag to write for, like the saturn. advanced games really took it out of the devs...and i know not many could do better at the time. 32x RIP, but not here dude!) Japanese 32X pre-launch Promo Video :witless: [edit] typo. likely a board review presentation judging by the looks of it?
Hmm, it doesn't look anything like Star Wars arcade though outside of the untextured polygons though. The scenery is on a planet and I think SW Arcade takes place only in space. Likewise, Star Wars Arcade was based on an arcade game that already existed, so I'm not sure that they would be using this conceptual art to prototype a game that already exists. ItReminds me a bit of Stellar Assault on the saturn, mission 9, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUZQf1I8dLg Obviously just a crazy theory, but maybe it is prototype stellar assault on the 32x, with ideas that were scrapped and then reused in the saturn edition? I've always been interested in the 32x and felt that it had a very good quality game library considering its lifespan and place in history. I wish the console's plastic design was a little cooler looking though
Oh I see the video clip you are now talking about. For some reason when I saw the clip in work it started at Super Tempo. I always though that was a very early tech demo for Panzer Dragoon as that was started with the 32X in mind. talking of which I have a video in the UK that shows footage from some version of Panzer Dragoon that you've probably never seen before. This footage is before the days of the 32X!
Yakumo, that tape was shown internally at Sega Europe, becoming the source of all those "3D Shooting Game" screenshots the UK Official Sega Magazine printed, which can be found here: http://www.dcshooters.co.uk/sega/saturn/panzerdragoon/development.html I'm still hopeful that one day we'll get to see not only your copy of this, but also the early Saturn builds of Daytona USA and Gran Chaser, plus any prototype Shinobi footage you may have... P.S. The clip in that promo video resembles an untextured version of the first stage from Panzer Dragoon, which fits the development timeline if you consider when it was likely produced.
Wow, you're right, that definitely resembles the first stage of Panzer Dragoon! I'm going to call that a winner. Btw in case anyone didn't see the youtube descriptions or notice for themselves, several of the video clips in this 32x preview are likely pre-rendered 3d animations and not demos running on the real hardware.
Damn, fantastic video. Never watched it before, thanks for uploading! The very early Panzer Dragoon footage sure is astonishing!
If you think that's bad you should see the alpha Saturn Virtual Racing. That runs very slow at around 10fps!
Oh, I see what you mean. That footage you see at 0:47 isn't the actual 32X hardware but pre-rendared stuff as was the Metal Head footage and Stellar Assault. no idea what hardware they are running on.
What's the cartoon type game with the flowers at :45-:47? Also this always impressed me especially at 3:03 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOWZbydnlZE
That game with the flowers is Tempo and it's complete crap. There's a follow up called Super Tempo on the Saturn (Japanese only release) which is much better.
When I first started collecting Sega 32X around 2003-04 I remember someone digging up screenshots from the supposed 32X versions of Panzer Dragoon and Daytona USA. I haven't been able to find them since. They were very early builds but very cool nonetheless. I distinctly remember there being few textures mapped particularly with the Daytona build. I wish I still had access to the shots.
