ive been wanting to buy a treamcast for a while but i dont feel like spending over 200 for bs, so is it worth buying
No, but $200 seems a lot to pay for a Treamcast. :smt045 It must have cost the developers a fortune to construct to sell it at that price for a profit. ...Or, it could basically be a rip-off...
it think it would be cheaper to mod a psone screen to fit on a your dreamcast. But, treamcast is a collectible, on the other hand. But 20 a dollard system? i think you're exagerating a bit, maybe used if you are lucky, but certainly not new.
The one I bought from a friend at school was $20, near mint. I bought it only, with no cables/controllers, right after all 4 of my cousin's Dreamcast controller ports blew out! Well, I keep the new Dreamcast...
Then there is this little thing about reading the manual which states that controllers and perpherials shouldn't be plugged in or unplugged during operation. This could blow the little fuses on that controller PCB if you do it to often, and even easier with third party stuff I've heard.
one of my dreamcasts had bad solder points on the joypad interface pcb, caused the joypad plugs to come loose after a while, easy to fix. iirc, i wasnt the only one who had these kind of problems. the psx has fuses for the joypad ports, but i'm not too sure if the dc has these, too. i find it kind of sad, but the dreamcast really is a $20 system nowadays. apart from these joypad port woes, its a really well engineered piece of hardware, especially compared to the psx's and ps2s crappy cd drives and everything.
$200 is a lot of £ especially as advised a $20 system Not quite in the same bracket but I just picked up a PSOne, Wild Things TFT screen & Wild Things Battery pack all for £20.................isn`t the equivalent but for $200 would have to be a real collectors purchase..........
I wanted a Treamcast at one time, but then the GP2X seemed more appealing for playing SNES ROMs to me later in life.
Dreamcast advantages/disadvantages i have had 4 dreamcast all had problems after about 8 hours of play (i was playing grandia 2) The system would go haywire and start blink on and off rapidly this happened 3 times and the fourth time i did some investigation and come to find out the dreamcasts had the same problem as the ps2 did when it first came out the cpu chip burns up and causes the system to malfunction in that manner it is worth it to get it as it is a collectible it is cheap to get brand new (at least where i live anyways) and it also have some good games such as grandia 2 and crazy taxi but games are limited for it and you would be better off paying for a dreamcast for about 100 bucks so it can be both worth or not just depends on how you look at it (p.s. this chip issue is rare among dreamcasts)
Holy crap! h: Just playing with you mate! ;-) The only Dreamcast problems I've had are the blowing of controller ports, which I haven't managed to fix yet...
as far as im aware you cant but then again i dont think i tried that hard most of my efforts go into working on xboxs and gba's though i need to do some more work on the older ones
I read on the net that you need a soldier, and replacement resistors, but I haven't had the time to retrieve the broken Dreamcast from my cousin's house 45 mins away.
A soldier? To fix a dreamcast! Do it yourself! I think it might be as simple as popping out a fuse and replacing it with one of the same size and rating, But I've never done it myself as my DC is perfect :icon_bigg
Well, I dunno. I read it was some blown out resistor that needed replacement, but was soldiered onto the board. Well, I already have the new Dreamcast.
