    Hi,

Hopefully someone can offer a bit of advice for this issue I have. My Everdrive 64 v2 doesn't want to play certain games such as Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Banjo-Kazooie or Banjo-Tooie yet it seems to play everything else including other Rare games like GoldenEye. I have tried different roms, many different versions of each game - both NTSC and PAL. and I've also tried 3 different SD cards

I have a US NTSC N64 modded for RGB video output with an official Nintendo branded memory expansion pak, a PAL Everdrive 64 running firmware 2.24 and OS 1.29 through a Passport Plus 3.1 import adaptor.

Seems a bit of an odd one as surely if it was the SD card trying others would give a different result and if it was the Passport Plus then surely it would have an effect on many other games and not just those select few.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

You don't say how the games are failing to run - does the screen stay black, with no sound from the speakers, or does the N64 reset, or what? The obvious thing to ask is are you sure the rom images of the games are working? I'd try re-downloading them from a different site, or a torrent that is confirmed to contain working games. Also, do you have a genuine cartridge of a game whose .z64 file fails to work for you (i.e. since Perfect Dark NTSC doesn't work for you, have you tried to use a real NTSC N64 cartridge of Perfect Dark)? If (when) the real cartridge works, then it will show that the N64 itself isn't the problem.I'm not sure if a PAL Everdrive 64 + NTSC N64 + Passport Plus 3.1 would be fully compatible, hopefully someone who knows for definite can advise you. Also,

From what I've understood the ED64 doesn't really like those passthrough region changing things. I'd try putting a 6102 or even a 6105 CIC in the ED64 and see what that does. By swapping the CIC out to those models will change it from PAL (which run 7101 and other chips starting with a 7) to a NTSC model. Also make sure the ROMs you have are the NTSC versions. That may not matter but it's better to be safe than sorry. If the problem still persists, then it's not the ED64 or the ROMs.

I'd go with a 6102 CIC since that is very common and all games either work as is or there are hacks to make them work with a 6102.

You should probably be using OS 1.28, I've heard 1.29 has a lot of issues.

Yeah, for the ED64, a 6102 would be the best bet if you wanted to go for NTSC. On a side note, did KRIKzz ever fix the compatibility issues when using the 6105?

MY ED64 plays those games fine. I have a NTSC version with a NTSC rom being used on a NTSC Console. I also use the same OS 1.29. It probably has something to do with the passport plus.

P.S. Why didn't you buy a NTSC ED64 in the first place?

Seems a bit silly to use a PAL ED64 cart via a passport on a NTSC console, which could cause issues for certain roms. Stick with a proper NTSC 6102 CIC cart for you're console to ensure compatibility

Sorry for the delayed response but I've only just gotten round to changing the CIC (lovingly removed from Madden 64!) to the NTSC one and sure enough everything now works :smile-new:

    Thanks for the help
