so i recently got a CRT television off craigslist. Works great, I'm using it for my old consoles. I hooked my consoles up to it, and they worked great.

Except when I Put in kirby's adventure. The TV would flicker during it's intro, and during the title screen it would warp and during other screens.

and it only does this on this input. wtf?

it was only on Kirby. And not on any other input. I had Y splitters so I could send it to my capture card and i took those out now it's fine. but what would cause this?

Logic would suggest it's the kirby cart.

it's not though because if i hook the nintendo up to my TV it's fine.

i dont think the Y splitter cables are dying, they work fine with every other game.

    It's weird...

Hmm, it is possibly interference then or a cracked solder joint on the video in.

Pop the back off the TV and resolder the joints on the av.
    (just don't touch the crt)

It's possible some of the signal is being lost down the Y-Splitter. Some TV's can't cope with a reduced signal level so you end up with picture disturbances especially on bright scenes.

Try using something else to split the signal like an old VCR with more than one A/V output.

If you have two consoles connected to the cable at the same time it can cause problems.

Indeed from the picture it looks similar to a poor sync signal on RGB, or a badly tuned analogue TV station. The symptom almost always occurs when the screen is mostly white.

it's strange, the same exact cable setup was used on a Sharp 480P EDTV LCD.

Wires aren't directional so Y splitters (if connected to multiple loads, including another console's output) will attenuate the signal. The black used on Kirby could be the darkest black (NTSCJ black level, not NTSCU) and coupled with the attenuation, poor TV filtering or calibration could cause the signal to be meet the threshold for sync level (which is under the black level).

So i removed the Y-Splitters and the problem is still slightly there. It warps on parts of kirby still a little bit, it's running through 3 AV switches btw. but the NES is hooked up to the first one. Is there any easy way to fix this? Like I said - it works fine when the nes is by itself
