I've got a PAL and US SNES into which I've installed SuperCIC chips. On the PAL console, everything works fine, I can cycle though different modes without any issues. On the American one, I can cycle through the different video modes, but 50hz displays incorrectly, regardless of whether I'm using a PAL or NTSC game. All the installation guides I've found online don't indicate which points on the CIC are for what, so I don't know where to start troubleshooting. If anyone knows which solder points it would be worth checking first, that'd be great....

Are you using an rgb cable?

Supercic is working fine, it's just display mode. If you arent using rgb, a NTSC console in 50hz would be ntsc/50 which is invalid.

Pal50 and pal60 both work, which is probably why the PAL machine is fine.

Not supposed to though, just because some devices will accept it, doesn't make it a valid combination.

That doesn't make PAL60 a valid combination either. That's supported only because some videogames are so horrible at 50hz and videogames started using it with SCART leads.

So TV makers started supporting it eventually.

The problem with the SEGA is different, it will only generate correct video output if it's operating at it's native video refresh rate because the clock divider changes from 12 to 15 when it is on 60hz mode, you will get incorrect color carrier frequency.

If its actually used and officially supported - its valid. Things evolve due to requirements changing. Just because PAL started at 50hz, doesnt mean it adding in 60hz support is "invalid".

NTSC50 isnt valid or officially used.

I do not understand what "with scart leads" has to do with anything. RGB doesnt use PAL or NTSC and composite via SCART is no different than via an RCA jack...

    NTSC50 isnt used officially anywhere.

Also, it started with PAL VCR's supporting imported NTSC tapes, not consoles.

My point is, if it was "invalid" as you say, NOTHING would work with it. Come on. I'm arguing with the "invalid" thing. It's obviously excessive here...

Just because you can generate it and some device is able to display it, it doesnt make it a supported format and therefore an invalid combination.

Don't know if this is a language issue, but invalid is plenty correct to use to describe ntsc50

OK, good to know I didn't mess up the installation. I don't have a SNES RGB cable, but wired up component this afternoon and everything works great.
